First, aregbesola merged schools of different origin and beliefs. Why would a governor cancel an ancient land mark by bringing Islamic schools and merging them with Christian schools? The Muslim's that were used to wearing their hijab to school continued such which made the governor to ban it so as to seem like there wasn't an agenda.

That wasn't the true position of the matter. CAN brought the problem by asking pupils to start dressing in Church robes to school. Unfortunately the directive was followed by the same Anglican high school where the miscreants in the name of pupils were spotted few days ago.

Community, religion leaders and government attempts at resolving the issue yielded no result. This was at the hight of Aregbesola's struggle for 2nd term. It then occurred to him the CAN was being political as usual. In order to avert political error, he banned Hijabs. This move pushed Muslim to enter into litigation with the government and the result is here for all.

The questions are why CAN is now using the same solution it deployed 3yrs ago that didn't work now? And, why CAN is using the same school? It's a fool that does same thing the same way and expects different result. CAN should just approach the court. Nobody is going to dance to its call for religion war unless if the war would be among itself.

In addition, Islamic or Christians schools are nothing but old sentiments people refuse to let go. All schools are public owned being managed and funded by government money.

CAN has every right to make their children wear robes to school. See constitution below

38. (1) Every person shall be entitled to freedom of thought, conscience and religion, including freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom (either alone or in community with others, and in public or in private) to manifest and propagate his religion or belief in worship, teaching, practice and observance.

Tell your governor to obey the constitution or abolish the useless education policy which is only breeding disunity.

unmerged the schools.

And how dare you call those students miscreants for putting on their church robes to school as allowed by the constitution and approved by Justice Falola?

Look around you bru. You will see lots of people wearing hijabs over their dresses. How many people do you see in church garments? How many people put on church robes over, native, English wears, coats etc?

Church robes which hitherto only seen in churches are now good for schools! Even those who wear it in churches keep them inside their bags and only put them on as they enter their churches! What kind of logic is that?

Let the CAN approach court just like the Muslims did for interpretation of that constitutional provision as affects the church robes and let's see what will come out of that. The current position and stance of CAN is barbaric and archaic which is not compatible with current reality.

because some Christians don't adhere to the mode of dressing inclined with their religion shouldn't prevent their religion from having access to the freedom provided by the constituiton as enjoyed by their Muslim counterparts.

why are you guys hinging on CAN approaching the court for appeal? Is it that you know that they won't get justice there cos you have the system under lock and keys?

FYI, there's no need for anybody to approach any court concerning this issue except if CAN still wants hijab banned. For now, what CAN wants is for the section of the constitution quoted by Justice Falola to be applied to all Nigerians (as it should), not just for the Muslims alone.

Aregbesola is de-marketing the APC and will make those who still have sympathy for the party begin to think otherwise. Many Christians abandoned oyinlola who is not a mulsim for aregbesola and stood with him all through his travail at the elections tribunal years back.

if this is what aregbesola is using to pay back christians in osun state, am sorry this may begin to change the dynamics of osun politics. Religion has never been an issue in osun state until aregbesola came in. I served in osun state and I know what am talking about.

that section is applicable to all religions, not Muslim's alone. See below:

so, the should allow all religions to have the same freedom the Muslim's have in schools. No need for CAN to go to court again. @alphaoscar

I am done with this issue. have a nice day bro.

chiwetaluAGU:
Former Minister of Transport and Aviation, Chief Ebenezer Babatope has warned Governor Rauf Aregbesola not to plunge Osun state and the South West into unnecessary war which he would not be able to handle by the time it starts.

The Ilesha born septuagenarian politician, gave the warning yesterday when he spoke with Daily Sun on the religion crisis rocking Osun State, and made it clear that bringing religion into politics have done too much havoc in Nigeria.

Babatope said : let the governor not bring religion into politics because South West have always been co-existing as Christians and moslems and we don’t need any governor to come and be promoting one religion over another.

“Let him have very good dialogue with the Christians community and face the governance that he was elected for, because promotion of Islamic religion over Christianity was not part of his campaign promises.

“Let him concentrate on how to pay his workers salaries and work on how he will never owe salary again instead of this distraction he is occupying himself with.” he added.

Babatope lamented that a lot of workers are suffering in Osun State, where he now lives, and explained that the governor should be concerned about the suffering of these government workers and the people of Osun who are lamenting daily.

According to the former minister, religious crisis have caused a lot of bloodshed, in Kano, Jos, Kaduna, Bauchi and many other place in the North until it graduated into Boko Haram.

“Aregbesola should not sow such seeds of religious competition in the minds of young people in the South West now so that they will not grow up to start promoting religion crisis.

“Is it this hijab or uniform wearing that will make them to become brilliant students, promote the standard of education and let them become useful to the society?” he asked

He then advised all governors in Nigeria to develop large heart of seeing themselves as governors to all and not for a particular religion, ethnic group or political party, saying good leaders don’t lead that way, except such leaders don’t want to succeed.

Female muslim and Christian students had started wearing hijab and church garments to school to promote their Islamic and Christian religions in some schools in the state.

This followed the judgement of Osun High Court that female Muslim students in the state are allowed to wear hijab to public schools, which some Christian leaders and owners of missionary schools like Baptist High School, Salvation Army Middle School, felt it was a subtle method to start promoting Islam in their mission schools.

To this end, they urged their Christian students to as well wear their church garments to school, which Governor Aregbesola allegedly kicked against, saying any student caught wearing unapproved uniform to school will be expelled.

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, in the state have kicked against the governor’s action, saying if he is encouraging Muslim students to wear Islamic apparel to christian missionary schools he should not stop Christian students from wearing their Christian apparel to the such Christian missionary schools.

Is it today that Muslim students start wearing hijab to school ? This is a practice that has been happening for God knows when even among their teachers and people of other profession and I wonder why you now think it is Aregbesola's doing.

The Christian leaders are the ones making themselves the willing tools in the hands of the enemies of that state. I attended an Anglican primary school managed by the government but on every Friday we always have our morning prayers in the Islamic ways without anybody killing each other.

We even have imam in school then teaching IRK.

The practice was the same when I later transferred to an Ansar-ud-deen school where we have our morning prayers in the Christian ways from monday -Tuesday , on Wednesday you pray silently and call whatever God you which while Thursday - Fridays are for Islamic prayers.

That's why during our days all the students are able to know most the popular songs in the S.O.P and still recite fati'a and other Islamic verses.

This latest move and agitation is strange to us in Yorubaland . Every normal Yoruba family have people of the two religion and they co-exist without any fighting among them.

( And FYI, even my own patents are practicing different religions and they live together in peace).

If you are sincere with yourself, you will see that your vituperations are unnecessary.

Why did your role model Aregbe merged muslim and christian schools together and refused
to create a level-playing field if not to promote intolerance ?

I wonder why you decided to be this silly, do Muslim students wear hijab to public schools in the southwest? Which school did you attend that is a public school in the southwest that permits that?
For you to say that the Christian leaders are the one fanning the ember of chaos shows how shallow minded you are. My question to you is "is it the Christian leaders in Osun that started the hijab war?" the Muslims asserted that it is their fundamental right, if everyone is to claim such religious right do you think such a society wouldn't be plunged into chaos?
Just imagine the traditional worshipers ogun, oya Sango Ifa priests etc decided to ask for theirs too where or what do you think would have happened in Osun?
Guy you better know what to say before coming online to display your foolishness.

Osun just like Nigeria is a circular state and as such it should be treated like one. We say no to favouring one religion over the others therfore, wear your nikkab/hijab to your Mosque, period!
Re: Don’t Bring Religious War To Southwest, Babatope Warns Aregbesola by Laid2001: 11:21am On Jun 16, 2016
The problem was any covering of the head was not allowed by the schools. No scarf allowed.
The muslim students went to court to exercise their fundamental Human right! and the court has ruled in their favour.

Do you know that the oyo state students were allowed to use ijab as well? but no one will hear the noice.!

Since even among the Muslims not all use it. It is when government decide to barn ijab that people will force it with them.

Since we want to encourage people to go to school, and the Muslim girls were wearing their ijab before school, then it sounds reasonable to allow them wear it to school.

As for those wearing robe and choir gown, na them go soon tire, since that is not their normal wears.

Beremx:
The female Muslims should tie scarf na! must they put on hijab?

Aregbesola is making me hate him because of this.

Why wear hijab to a missionary school? And why did Aregbesola merge the school?

I don't think muslims would even admit a christian student into an islamic school, talk more of allowing them to wear whatever pleases them.

Is this not how the so called mayhem began in the North? What have you been able to do about it to quell the religious insurgency?

For the fact that you are a muslim does not make you superior to everyone else in the country!

By this, do you think he is promoting peace in the State or pulling a time bomb? So let's say the truth and not take sides with anyone here dude! Let the normal school uniforms return to use!

( And FYI, even my own patents are practicing different religions and they live together in peace).

the schools are missionary schools, own by Christian, pls read the write up again

Beremx:
I remember my secondary school days in the north early 90's. the mode for dressing for Christians in my school was a beret, skirt and blouse. for Muslims it was kaftan and scarf. it wasn't compulsory though as Christians could wear Muslims dress code or vice-versa. Till now, that's the dress code. Imagine that in a federal school.

Why then should students wear hijabs in Osun state for crying out loud?
Ms Beremx, what happened to freedom to dress as one pleases? Why is it difficult for us to tolerate and overlook what we don't believe in?

Sorry, Yorubas don't do religious war, whatever you see going on will eventually be resolved.... Baba Babatope is a politician, his stance is suspect.....unseen hands are pulling strings in this brouhaha.

On Topic, I don't subscribe to religion being made focal point in schools, it's a distraction..

I had same experience as alphaoscar in secondary school & I attended a regular one... both religions co existed in peace...

The same way that many foolishly said that Nigerians don't do suicide bombs as we love life too much. Then Boko Haram terrorists showed us how WRONG we were. Not so
Keep hiding behind politics instead of calling out Aregberascal NOW before it is too late.
