Nigeria's biggest white elephant. It should be shut down. There is a massive glut of steel and China is a massive dumper.

Best advice is to blow it up and ring it for miles with land mines

Or, let's beg Uncle Dasuki or Aunty Diezani for funds . . . this na serious matter.

Hahaha the Russians imported Nigerian oil during the civil war in exchange for war weapons and a steel mill supposed to create employment and provide materials for constrcution.

Those weapons they used to kill civilians during the war will cause the souls of innocent civilians never to let Ajaokuta function.
can you just hear yourself talk?.... Russians, importing oil! Haba!

Let's use the recovery loot to fund the project and hence will guarantee the talented youth employment instead of youth empowerment that can cut across the grass roots or better still why can't we borrow money from Dasuki to fund the project later we can refund it back to him

Pere. Just 90b . Too small compared to money that exchange hands under Jona. Something is pathologically wrong with this country.

The ajaokuta steel issue remains a big mystery, sometimes I think its has to do with its location though I stand to be corrected cos if it was located in another region of the country, I think folks in that region would have fought so hard to see to its revival.

Kogites, your destiny is in your hands, what has the Kogi state Govt done over the years on this issue, we can leave everything to abuja.

I last read Regional Geography of Nigeria about 20-25 years ago and even then the book was over 10years old. And this Ajaokuta plant was written about. If I remember the text well, it stated, "...will soon be operational".

Well, at this rate, may be we all change our taste to Made in Nigeria before this thing will work. Because as long as our wide nyash can jump overseas and keep importing whatever we like, there will remain no impetus for either the government or we the people who put the government in place to make this plant work. I am reducing my tastes and desires for imported products. It is not easy.

should we still be talking about Ajaokuta steel in 2016? abeg that thing should be scrapped and the entire complex turned to a university or some specialised institution. Ajaokuta ko, ajangbadi ni! Better still, let's sell it to Dangote, Otedola or Orji Uzor Kalu, they have proven to be better managers of businesses than our otondo leaders.
Honestly....just give that thing to Dangote, let him transform the place and get it fully working.

On a serious note:

Ukraine already offered $1b-$2.6b to take over . . . I think in a PPP arrangement . . . undecided

OTOH, the Indians took us to court already over the same steel company (claiming ownership of Ajaokuta steel company shocked . . . some fraud from the past admins's stables.

There you have it, the full 'cosa nostra' of the 'mammoth' (Ajaokuta Steel)

Modath, Omenka, PassingShot, Babacele, and other well wishers of the Nigerian project, come see una people.

Bros ,my landlord Olu Elewa was (late now) one of the Engineers that started Ajaokuta mills...hmmm when a country abandons such a strategic project that can lift her to a technological bliss which would change the present economic status quo, then you know something fundamental is missing somewhere. Now each previous government like an harlort was inviting everybody to the table and even sold part of d steel mill's shares to some investors while engaging other investors using the remaining fraction or something.
There are biz folks allover the world whose eyes and interest are on the Nigerian steel intimidating resume' and are ready to bring all necessary facilities to aid the partnership but are only waiting for the right n sensible political nudge that we can offer. We pray Fayemi pulls this through...oh I forgot the World bank is also interested in offering us facilities to aid our solid min sector.
Bro I even know 1 old American who is ready to bring American expertise, market and EXIM if any of our governments and biz can promise atlst 10% of the profit to the host communities but sceptical of our geosurvey claims that have burnt his fingers in the past.
