Road contractors under the auspices of the Federation of Construction Industry (FOCI) have said that their mobilisation to sites was to safe the economy from stagnation and total collapse. Speaking exclusively to New Telegraph by phone yesterday, Director of FOCI, Fidelis Imoisilli, said his members were yet to receive payment for works already completed and ongoing but abandoned projects totaling N600 billion. FOCI is the umbrella body for all construction companies in Nigeria. Its members include Julius Berger Plc, Reynoid Construction Company, Dantata and Sawoe, CCECC, Cappa De’berto and other 120 major construction firms. Imoisilli said the N350 billion that government planned to inject into capital projects is not enough to pay the N600 billion debt owed contractors. He stated that a few contractors that had been gradually mobilising to sites were doing that based on discussions and agreements they had with the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, to return to sites to galvanise the nation’s economy. Imoisilli said that works minister had expressed the willingness of the Federal Government to pay them as soon as possible. Already, Julius Berger and Reynolds Construction companies have returned to their sites on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, while a few others have also gone back to sites, expecting government to fulfill its part of the deal. Projects worth N169 billion had been awarded to Julius Berger and Reynolds Construction Company by Nigeria’s former President, Goodluck Jonathan, in 2013, to repair Section 1 of the highway, which spans Lagos to the Sagamu Interchange and Section II that begins from Sagamu Interchange to Ibadan. The project was initially scheduled for completion within 48 months. However, hope rose for the contractors last Wednesday, as the Federal Government confirmed the release of N280 billion as part of the N350 billion earmarked for the implementation of capital projects captured in the 2016 budget. The N280 billion released, government said, was for execution of capital projects that had been scrutinised as ongoing. FOCI President, Solomon Ogunbusola, had recently alleged that the federal and state governments owed his members over N600 billion. He said that the refusal by governments at the two tiers to pay the debts was affecting the construction industry. He added that no payment had been received from the Federal Government since August 2014. The FOCI president said that 80 per cent of construction workers had been sacked in the last one year, blaming it on the refusal of governments to award contracts and engage in talks with construction companies.

This Goodluck Jonathan was the ultimate scammer. So it is true there was no payment of contractors?. Niger bridge would not have happened in a million years. I dont even blame him, there are lots of unexposed Nigeruan youths who thought because he was like them he had to be supported. Cluelessness reaching out to cluelessness, fakery supporting fakery.
Anyway, what happened to all our money?. Goodluck, where is our money?. Roads are not there, the one they did you did not pay. Refineries are not there, Power is not there, Airports are not finished. Where is our money

Buhari met about 5000MW of electricity, but now
have about 0 MW.
Buhari met a cup of rice at about N50 but it now
sells for N120.
Buhari met peace in the Nigerdelta and Igboland,
but now blood flows in those areas.
Buhari met One Dollar equivalent to
about N170, but now it is about N375 to One
Dollar.
All this happened under the same "CLUELESS" Jonathan. ΨђåƮ has Buhari done.
