Its a very common saying that beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. But truely there's more to the saying than is always meant. Primarily, I see a relationship between beauty and the beholder. It is what the beholder can see that determines his/her evaluation. What the beholder can see depends on the quality of his/her sight (insight inclusive), how much he sees also depends on how long he looks (time) and how close (the closer, the clearer). It is not just about the "object" (what we see) but also the "subject" (the beholder). However, beauty has been defined as combination of qualities that make something (or somebody) pleasing and impressive to look at, listen to, touch, smell, or taste. It is clear from this that beauty is used to refer to combination of qualities and not just only one. Also, it can be inferred that beauty is more than just the qualities seen (with eyes), it includes the qualities that makes you want to be listened to and in short relate with. These qualities includes the obvious and the seemingly vague ones which stands to be more important. Among the obvious are good looks, carriage, interpersonal skills and others like composure etc. Are these insignificant? No! In fact, they are relevant and not negligible. One needs to look good; pleasant appearance including facial appearance, one needs to have good carriage and be able to compose oneself at all times, one needs to possess excellent interpersonal skill and relate well with people (well known and unfamiliar). These qualities can create opportunities, especially initial attraction and to some extent place one in good position to getting the best. Also, the seemingly vague but absolutely essential ones might not be immediately obvious at first sight/ meeting but they eventually have more say on an individual and "become more obvious than the obvious ones". To actually get the best it is important to have the combination the obvious and the seemingly vague qualities. Among these are comportment (one's manner and conduct), habit (one's routine, practice, obsession and preference), attitude (one's opinion, point of view, thought, feeling), and character (one's personality, quality, Spirit, disposition and integrity). These are what is referred to as inner beauty. Our habits influence our attitude which in turn make up our character; interestingly character has been used interchangably with the word "charm". It is the external and internal qualites that makes up beauty. Moreover, the beholder sees these qualities and attest to its beauty. But there is more to beholding than ordinarily seeing, it involves observing. When a beholder observes well, he sees the real qualities and can therefore judge. Observation involves paying attention carefully. It requires the ability to see and perceive (with eyes); the eyes seeing more than mere looks. Not a fan of any of the contestants though.. May the best player WIN |
