I don't think creating more states is the answer.rather we should return to regionalism but the constituting ethnic tribes can create their respective provinces or states in their respective regions

Nigerians, pls don't crucify me! We need to set our priority right. Presently, Nigeria is battling with economic crisis and I don't think most of the recommendations in the 2014 confab report are suitable for now. We need to subdue the economic challenges first.

* Imagine, 27 states out of 36 could not pay workers wages and we are proposing 54.

It means 89,000 federal civil servants will be increased to about 150,000 all at the expense of our dwindling economy.

2014 confab report is superb but not implement able at this moment. The implementation will create chaos, compound Nigeria economic challenges.

What Nigerians need now is not more states or state. Police. We need

* atleast 18hrs electricity supply
* A bag of rice for N5000
* A litre of fuel for N50
* Housing Mortgage of standard 3bedroom flat for N2M to be paid for 20yrs (fraction of Minimum wage)
* Minimum wage N45,000
* Free health care service
* Free Tertiary Education

We need to reason well.

I agree with you that we do not need more states at this time when existing ones are finding it hard to pay salaries. Lets watch and see the outcome of their reviews and recommendations. However, it is a great news.

We have a foundational problem yet we keep on adjusting the roof of our collapsing structure.
If our nation is ever going to remain a single indivisible entity, the implementation of the recommendations of that conference report is a must especially as regards true federalism, forms of governance and minority rights. If this is not done we will continue to go in circle.

There is no true federalism in that report. Apart from that, do you want additional state creation?

Okay, are you saying that every state will remit 42% to FG for whatever the make? and not FG sharing money to states? If so, then it is a right step. however, 42% seems much, it should have been say 35%. Responsibility for development should be localized, let the president focus on foreign policy, immigration and defense at least.

Please dont be confused. The recommendation is that the present sharing formula should be reviewed. Why are those shouting implement the confab without understanding what the confab contains
Re: Reps Adopts 2014 Confab report by ekefre4(m): 1:19pm On Jul 01, 2016
So allocations will still be shared by FG? Doesn't make sense. Why can't we make the states independent n practice true federalism @ once. I want a situation where by when it's time to pay salary Osun state doesn't look @ d FG. A crime is committed in kano the police doesn't wait for order from above to start investigation. Instead of all these BS.

no nation in the world practice our type of federalism and that's the reason for our stagnancy.
what's wrong with having new states if they are made to be viable? That's what we need. people should decide how they want to be governed and not this case why minority tribes are subjugated and treated with disdain.

If 2014 confab report is implemented, LGA becomes property of states. States wont visit Abuja for monthly allocation again.Then we can have as many states & LGA as possible, & also determine structure of admin.& funding.
Re: Reps Adopts 2014 Confab report by Alaanyihaji(m): 2:57pm On Jul 01, 2016
This is not a curse, but if the far reaching decisions of the confab like true federalism, rotational presidency, equity of states in the geo-political zones,decentralized policing are not addressed holistically, PMB will spend the whole of his tenure crushing agitators from different zones in the country. For this to be done PMB has to change his 5% mindset and see Nigeria as his single constituency.

Not in favor of having 54 states. That's too much! Presently, if only less than 6 states can survive without federal allocation, how many more states would be 100% dependent on the federal allocation in a 54-state structure?

So, I would even support the merger of some economically unviable states in order to have a 30-state nation.
