Rauf Aregbesola, governor of Osun state, on Wednesday said the just-concluded Ramadan fast had shown that people can survive under any circumstance.

Speaking in Osogbo after the Eid-el-Fitr prayers, Aregbesola called for tolerance and understanding of Nigerians to move the country forward.

He asked the people to apply the Ramadan experience to different areas of their lives.

“We thank Almighty Allah for permitting us to survive the fasting,” he said.

“We want to tell our people that if we can endure the 30 days Ramadan hunger, we can endure anything.

“Let us use the experience of the Ramadan to re-fashion our lives, be tolerant, persevering and live a life that will add value to our community, state and nation.

“Nigeria needs peace for development and Nigerians must strive for peace as we learn to tolerate and understand one another for harmonious relationships.

“If we live harmoniously, we will have a better society and development will be assured.”

Sherifat, wife of the governor, equally admonished Muslims to sustain abstinence from sins, just as they did during Ramadan.

Urged them to sustain the tempo, she said abstaining from sin should not be limited to the Ramadan period alone .

Musa Animashaun, chief imam of Osogbo, who led the prayers, urged Muslims to shun all forms of vices.

He reminded them that all human beings would eventually leave “this sinful world”, adding that living a life of holiness is the only way to get to heaven.

He prayed for the success of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration and the peace of the state and the country.

Rubbish!
Fasting that many of them were 'forced' to do is what the clown is referring to. Give them an option and see how many of them will do the fast.

The clown should pay the people what they are entitled to and quit this sentimental rubbish.

This headline is very unprofessional... Nowhere was the governor quoted to have said that directly from the statement but because we must be sensational to attract readers, we make up crafty and misleading headlines. It is normal for muslims that one of the things learnt from Ramadan is that it shows you you can abstain from many things successfully and so you should try to do so permanently but because such comes from Aregbesola, some persons had to twist his words. They will be alright
