This might become a technology demonstrator for future aircraft by HAL.

Politically not realistic in deed but I would suggest a bold plan for the IAF fleet: Abandon the LCA now and select the very efficient/economical Gripen for MRCA. At the same time more Rafale should be acquired and optional ex French Air Force Mirage2000s if squadron numbers cannot be archived within the time-frame. That would give a good hgh/low of performance and multiply IAFs air power over the next decade.

Your suggestion is a good feasible solution for IAF to build up its inventory but my question is to what end ?

At the simplistic level of reasoning

Depends on what ones goals r in terms of developing national capabilities vis a vis developing the airforce's capabilities vis a vis developing capabilities of both concurrently

Developing and productionising a weapon system all by oneself ensures sovereignty of both platform and operational control.

Economic scientific and industrial benefits are additional

And importantly might serve as a geopolitical tool and at the very least as a bargaining tool to obtain better weapons systems of the same type with better capabilities and ToT otherwise chances r one will only end up with monkey version.

Why is LM , Boeing , Dassault etc offering top of the line variants of their platforms with offers of local production ?

One of the main reason is LCA , difficult to fanthom but nevertheless a over riding factor.

And last but not the least without LCA , AMCA is not happening

IAF rounds off tests of Astra air-to-air missile with 5 tests in the last 4 days.

With 3 tests in combat configuration with warheads and manoeuvring targets, including one target impact which the IAF says took place at at maximum (100+ km) range.

I have doubts on whether it was really drones

Anyways this is gonna give headaches to almost all countries in the world regarding the safety of their critical infrastructure be it oil depos , nuclear plants , electricity generation plants , industrial complexes etc.

I am guessing next 9/11 type of attacks if it happens will involve drones

HPM , counter drone systems, DEW etc in the coming days will be selling like hot potatoes all across the world grin

Eff the Saudis! When they kicked off the hubristic Yemen slaughter in early 2015 this day was inevitable. Many global players are waiting to take down the Saudis once and for all-China,Russia,most Arabs etc, etc. It could even be the US forcing them to the table to cool down ME temperatures.
Man portable anti drone sytsems are coming along nicely, btw.

Anti drone systems will be needed in big way to counter threat from both conventional and non conventional ( terrorists etc ) sources .

Will need power systems which can destroy drone threats at standoff distances for high priority or highly critical assets.

Ma portable Anti drone systems are best for last ditch attempt or for eliminating out of the blue threats to low risk / low priority assets.

In pic Anti drone systems using laser / emp as a sure kill system

Importance of mortars for warfare both conventional or unconventional is too big to ignore

Especially to take out Anti tank crew hiding in ditches , bunds etc , direct line of sight weapons like tanks will have a bad day if unaccompanied by indirect line of sight weapon systems like mobile mortar systems.

Here is another way of delivering indirect fire support using thermobaric missiles. The TOS-M is a logistical nightmare hence not fielded in large numbers. But it is nice to watch, 5secs and the show is over with a range of 6km. The launcher is mounted on a T-72 to enable it to follow mechanized and armoured forces in all terrains. Two reload vehicles for each launcher are needed to make efficient use of the system. I think guided rounds would reduce such immense logistics and would make it more interesting for export use.

Nemesis8u,can you add anything on the only gunship dogfights in the world that happened Iran-Iraq war?

The Iran–Iraq War also saw the only confirmed helicopter dogfights in history, with Iranian Army Aviation's AH-1J Internationals (usually the TOW-capable ones) entering combat mostly against Iraqi Army Air Corps' Mil Mi-24 Hind gunships and HOT-armed Aérospatiale Gazelles. Hinds are stronger and faster, while AH-1Js are more agile. The result of the skirmishes are disputed. There were even engagements between Iranian AH-1J and Iraqi fixed-wing aircraft: using their 20 mm cannon, the AH-1Js scored three confirmed kills against MiG-21s, claimed a Su-20, and shared in the destruction of a MiG-23.[65]
