Lurker4Long: I consider foreign policy magazine worse than horse shit And bro you made me visit that crap and actually read that crap lol As usual the ahole who wrote the piece shiit more than necessary to earn his dollars Anyways regarding OFB what should have been done decades ago is being done now Current government is being lenient , i dont know why , IMO they should have been sold off to private sector instead of being corporatised There is a cadre of bureaucrats who are selected based on general exam to run OFB, most are from non technical background with zero experience so it is not surprising the incompetence of OFB , because of their vote bank power they escaped reforms but not working on current government Anyways lets see, atleast something has been done finally , better late than never |

Nemesis4you: Never mind the medium; it's the message that matters. Perhaps corporatisation is the 1st step towards either full or partial privatisation? Then again, that's what was envisaged with our albatross, Denel, and it still needs bailouts by taxpayers. 1 Like |

Lurker4Long: Maybe depending on the performance over the next few years Corporates work fine if government is totally barred from any involvement with them , all shares must be with public As they say government has no business to be in business , they always end up ruining it 2 Likes |

Nemesis2you:TBH I am more interested in INS Anvesha, the DRDO TDV that is. I think its a Technology Demonstrator and validator for the Project 18 Destroyers. They are something we really need after China launched their Type-055 Destroyers. iblawi: In Delhi or Mumbai: Around ₹2 crore which converts to ₦110,208,012.30 In other metros: Around ₹1.2 crore which converts to ₦66,124,807.38 Nemesis4you:Few Inaccuracies:- 1.) OFB officers are not IAS, they have their own cadre which is selected from India's most competitive exam for engineers: The Indian Engineering Services Exam. Suffice it to say, they are not non-technicals. They are some of the best engineers in the country. . 2.) One Major reason for OFB underperforming: They are a government department. Which means that they don't have to earn anything because they get handed down a budget, they can't fire people for underperforming, they don't have as much autonomy as a DPSU when it comes to investing in new product development. Turning the OFB into 12 DPSUs will take care of most of these problems. While many consider the Private sector to be a panacea, selling OFB to the private sector makes very little sense. Indian private enterprises are mostly averse to R& D, especially in defence. In most cases, private companies don't do own R& D and only make use of technology they get handed down from DRDO or from JVs with foreign companies. Only new age startups like Tonbo are the ones doing their own R& D. But they don't have the money to buy OFB. So OFB could only have been bought by large private conglomerates which would not have invested a lot in R& D. Instead, in the form of a DPSU, OFB might innovate like HAL does. So the government is very justified in what it is doing with OFB. . Nemesis4you:Agreed. |

L&T Defence midget submarine SOV400 The 44 m long, 490 ton displacement midget submarine will have an endurance of 21 days and be able to traverse submerged for 80 nm and cruise for 2000 nm at a speed of 4 knots. Designed and developed in-house, the SOV 400 will be capable of carrying a crew of ten along with the ten more special operations troops. The submarine is positioned to provide smaller navies with constrained budgets an asymmetric capability. The vessel will be utilized to deploy and recover special forces while submerged for intelligences, surveillance, reconnaissance (ISR) as well as sabotage, rescue and evacuation missions. The vessel will carry two heavyweight torpedoes outside the pressure hull for shallow-water attacks. It will be able to dive to depths greater than 100 m and travel up to 2000 nautical miles(3704 km). SOV-400 can also be carried by conventional submarines to be deployed as per mission requirements. A lock-in lock-out chamber will separate the two hulls of the submarine with crew and special forces personnel, combat information centre and battery banks accommodated in the forward compartment. The aft section containing machinery will be unmanned. Automation of the submarine operation will enable minimal manual operation of the submarine. While the current variant utilizes lead-acid batteries, an advanced variant with lithium-ion batteries is being developed. 3 Likes
