(If you aren't aware of the recent bombshells here's a video summary and more videos of more acorn offices are set to be released today and in the coming days.)

[flash=400,300]http://www.youtube.com/watch/v/7s8w9GEpSzw&feature/player_embedded#t/95[/flash]

Along with NBC, CBS and ABC? why why why? do they think if they ignore this incredibly shocking story it will go away? this is not a partisan matter, it is a corruption matter, a huge corruption matter that could infact destroy Acorn completely. I thought even if the other networks didn't at least CNN would. I'm very disappointed.

Is honest journalism in America completely dead now?

Chosen,

here's a link to the Foxnews coverage since they're the only major news outlet covering it. Also if you google it you'll get lots of bloggers both left and right commenting extensively on it. But yet CNN and co have decided they will not speak about it.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,550562,00.html 4 videos so far have been released and more are slated to come out in the coming days.

And the award for stupid post of the day goes to. . . . . *****drumroll******. . . . . . Je Soul!

I was waiting for Je Soul to expose some executive malfeasance at Acorn, only for her to post the personal foibles of an employee.

At best, the only news in this story is that this particular crackhead should have been properly vetted before being offered employment at Acorn.

Of course reputable news agencies like CNN see no new in this. . . . duh!. . . . cos there is no fucking news in this!

Only tabloid TV like Fox News would cover this bollocks. You have to be seriously retarded to ingest bollocks from Fox News on a daily basis. Reputable Republicans do not bother with that stupid channel.
Re: Why Isn't CNN Reporting The Recent Acorn Scandal? by JeSoul(f): 8:50pm On Sep 16, 2009
Perhaps the stupid post of the day should go to you . . .

This is the 4th video in the series of scandals! from different Acorn offices! and more are slated to come out today and in the coming days. Forgive me for assuming the usually knowledgeable audience might at least be paying some attention to the news at all . . .  Perhaps you should feign humility and simply ask if you're clueless on a matter. Infact I just checked CNN, they have "started" reporting it . . .

http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2009/09/16/am.acorn.video.reaction.cnn

you should feel very "stupid" right about now, no?
Re: Why Isn't CNN Reporting The Recent Acorn Scandal? by JeSoul(f): 9:07pm On Sep 16, 2009
And what do you know, the story is so "stupid" the rest of the networks are now reporting it.

Acorn launches an investigation

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2009/09/white-house-calls-acorn-employees-behavior-unacceptable.html

and by the way, did I mention several people have already been arrested and the FBI is involved? yeah pretty darn stupid if you ask me.

hehehehe. . . . calm down darling!  cool

The story has no legs. . . . and no amount of broadcasting on Nairaland will give the story legs.

At best, it will be a passing comment on Major News channels, whilst Fox News continue to anchor their news reports on the story.

Simple reason is that these are isolated cases of misconduct, not Acorn procedure or culture.

Now calm the phock down and quit breaking exclusives on us.  wink

Of course the story has no legs. Infact it is so crippled that the Senate held a vote to deny funding to ACORN. That the US Senate consider the matter so serious to deserve a floor vote goes to show that Ibime's views would on a good day deserve nothing better than to be ignored.

lol . . . you're crafty, able to charm your way out of any situation huh? but it would really be unfortunate for someone of your intellectual capabilities to allow your affection for Obama to prevent you from analyzing issues objectively. If you thot my goal was to tie this to Obama let me disappoint you now - while this is a negative for Obama becos he has ties to the organization, I don't see how he can be blamed or held responsible for any of it - that would be ludicrous.

but if this story indeed has no legs we will see how it plays out over the coming weeks.

And that is the thing exactly, this does not appear to be an isolated incident! haven't you read the story of the regular citizens who went undercover? they decided not to go to a major news outlet but are instead releasing the videos one day at a time - it showed several acorn employees, in different offices, in different states! if it were one or two I don't think people would be up in arms but this many? the fifth video should be out today I think . . .

oh and ps. glad you dig the video   kiss

Its been dead for a long time, you only seem to remember when some anti-obama "news" is not given prominent frontpage focus.

If honest journalism were alive no one would be accusing Obama of being an Indonesian muslim thug who happened to spend yrs sitting under a pastor while being a Kenyan citizen at the same time.

If honest journalism was alive we wouldnt think the healthcare bill is a "government take over of healthcare" or that Obama is out to kill your grandma or that death panels exist (even though the provision was added by a republican) or that taxes are going up . . .

If honest journalism were alive we wont have thousands marching in the streets accusing Obama of marxism, socialism and fascism in the same breath and yelling for their "country back".

If honest journalism were alive we wont accuse Obama of reckless spending when majority of that spending came from another administration anyway.

If honest journalism were alive Glenn Beck wouldnt have a job.

lol @ chic2 . . . see when folks ask whether "honest journalism" is dead they are mostly focusing on the "librul" media. If the conservative media had been doing its job you wont be in Iraq today based on non-existent weapons of mass destruction.

Abegi everyone should lay off ACORN, every organisation has its bad apples . . . it doesnt nullify the fact that the organisation has done a fantastic job. Its recieved close to $50m in Federal funds since 1994, if it were so bad how come Clinton and Bush continued to fund it with PERFECT SILENCE from the republican hypocrites now kicking?

All of a sudden Obama is in power and everyone is whining about ACORN? Yeah honest journalism my nice little fish.

On the other hand i wanted to make others see the obvious elephant in the room . . .

- ACORN is NOT receiving $8bn in federal funding like you earlier commented (again an example of how bad journalism AND SENSATIONALIST REPORTING from folks like you have become that we no longer verify our facts before we make wild claims to whip up sentiments) . . . Chrysler (an auto company) recieved only $1bn from the federal bailout.

- ACORN has been on the federal Govt payroll since 1994, where was everyone?

Whether you walk out or not . . . the facts bear themselves out . . . much of this is simply trying to stir a tempest in a teacup.

Journalism has been dead for the last 20 yrs . . . i'm wondering why everyone is suddenly only waking up to that reality now.

CNN smears Democratic liberals calling Acorn a "liberal group"
September 16, 2009.

Acorn,a group with roots in Chicago that has been investigated before for massive voter fraud and phony voter registrations on behalf of President Obama during the Democratic primaries has run afoul of the law again as they have before.
This time they had a number of their workers caught on tape advising women in Baltimore and New York who were posing as prostitutes as part of a filmmakers sting, on how to get housing subsidies by  not revealing that they are prostitutes and what to say on the their applications to hide the fact that they were prostitutes.
The problem is that CNN had decided to refer to Acorn as a "liberal" group.  Lou Dobbs, ever the right wing sycophant, referred to them as " left wing".

When news of the behavior of the Acorn workers became public, the Senate voted 83-7 to cut off federal funds to Acorn. They were also roundly criticized  by Democrats supporting Hillary Clinton's candidacy during the primaries for phony voter registration on behalf of the Obama campaign.  Voter fraud has always been a problem for Acorn and they faced an indictment in Nevada for phony voter registration. Yet CNN not to mention the crack pot conservative blogs, try to associate the failings of Acorn with liberal phillopsophy as if there is any real connection.

To his credit, John Fund at the Wall Street Journal pointed out in his article that John Conyers, one of the most liberal Democrats in the House had tried to hold hearings into Acorn but found himself stymied by the House leadership, so while Acorn did have its defenders in congress at the time, it was hardly a result of liberalism but more bad judgment.

Exactly how Acorn is a "liberal" group no one on CNN said as they reported the story, but news media and politicians are always quick to play the guilt by association game if it suits their political ends,

As the Acorn story was being shown the words, "Acorn - Liberal group" were splashed across the screen on CNN, though politics seemed to play no part in an Acorn worker trying to help a prostitute and love-vendor get housing subsidies to set up a brothel.

Dobbs in his nightly show referred to them as "left wing" as if to try and forge a relationship between Acorn and groups like ThinkProgress or MoveOn.org.  Maybe CNN thinks there is a the connection between trying to help a love-vendor set up a brothel and Senator Russ Feingold one of the Democrats most liberal senators.

This again is why CNN and most of the mainstream news, especially cable, simply can't be trusted,   Unlike Fox who openly promotes conseravative agendas and makes no bones about it,  CNN is simply afraid of conservatives and are willing to attack liberals, not on ideological grounds which Fox does, but to make a buck and to try and attract whatever conservative viewership they can. In other words they are either patently incompetent or patently dishonest. Dobbs on the other hand, to his credit if not to his journalistic objectivity, also makes no bones about his right wing agenda and so you know what youre going to get which is always slanted news converage.

It is a failure both on the part of those reporting the story and their editors, that they allowed Acorn, a group that has been criticized as much by Democrats as anyone, as a "liberal " group without anything to support it. other than liberals and Democrats have been more supportive of government subsidies for housing for the poor than Republicans. The fact that Acorn was caught not applying the kind of standards Republicans routinely dont apply to things like going to war or spying on American citizens doesnt mean Acorn somehow reflects liberal philosophy but that is exactly the message Dobbs was sending, and CNN in general promoted.

The Brooklyn DA is investigating Acorn as well  he should and they are in possession of the video made by the filmmakers who recorded them. In the meantime, State Senator Bill Perkins, a Harlem Democrat has asked the state senate to put on hold a $10,000 grant he awarded Acorn until the DA probe is finished. The Census Bureau cut their ties with Acorn on Friday.

Its  not going to be long before real liberals cut their ties to CNN.

Watch the interview shown by CNN on this issue yesterday. Wolf Blitzer takes care of only headline news and they've shown the video 5 hours before Wolf Blitzer. FocKs news can never be any match to CNN. What have you to say about their reporter who got busted for lying against Obama?. I saw the clips on how she deliberately lied and claimed that Obama cursed the insurance companies. MSNBC used that opportunity to paint FOX news black.

spot on david, journalism didnt die today. unlike you, i dont think it dies 20yrs ago. i think i was dead on arrival, it died long before television was invented. only that in the past few decades, its corpse has started to smell.

how come nobody here noted that the video jesoul put up is just a show? the lady working for acorn knew that acorn was under ''attack'' and guessed correctly that she was on secret camera and she ''played along'' . police investigations showed her husband was alive, she killed no one, talks to no congressmen/senators/assemblymen about illegal stuff. she was just fooling the ''fox news agents'' . did anyone hear that? ok, there goes journalism nairaland style.

did anyone hear that there was a provision in the HR 3200 in the house of representatives (section 246) that made it illegal for the illegal immigrants to benefit from the reform? ahaaa, journalism nairaland style.

what is acorn? what has acorn done in its lifetime(b/c i'm sure it is about to be killed) that made it live for a long time? has acorn done any good thing? how has acorn affected the poor masses it serves. nobody knows any good thing about acorn. all we know is the foul mouthed spasm of some of its workers. let's close down acorn.

and let's hope no secret camera enters some offices like those in congress, campaign offices, white house, supreme courts, churches, hospitals etc. only God knows what we may hear if such happens. anyway, person wey dem catch na im be theif.

all this is to disparage obama isnt it? well he is neither the founder nor the CEO of acorn. so fox news should try another style.

when bill richardson was nominated for commerce secretary, all hell let loose about some stuff he was involved in. he had to resign his nomination. and nobody talked about him again grin did anybody know of how his case ended? nobody cares again. how about blago? when it was abvious it had nothing to do with obama, it all ended. nobody cares now grin what of senator daschle? who is talking of bill ayers now? or pastor jeremiah wright? have their sins been wiped automatically?

weep not acorn, you dont need to fight a PR battle, just distance urself from obama and u'll be forgotten in a minute wink then u can go and sin no more angry

We are blessed with the benefit of hindsight for a reason, it is impossible to discuss political problems of today completely isolated from what happened last week. If we say ACORN is bad then we shld ask ourselves WHY do we suddenly think so now when that same senate saw absolutely no problems with federal funding for it since 1994 (including 8yrs of republican control).

Has ACORN never had a scandal until 2009? Why is it so important now that we think CNN and all other media organisations shld make it frontpage? Is there an ulterior motive to all these sudden hunger for "honest journalism" when we have bigger issues like healthcare to worry about?

@jesoul,

news item has to be verified b4 it is reported. the guys who did these videos were associated with fox news, they have done interviews with fox news anchors but have refused to talk to rick sanche of cnn. it is not easy for msnbc/nbc to verify any news item originating from fox news. and u know why.(and vice versa). but when they verified it, they talked about it too.
Re: Why Isn't CNN Reporting The Recent Acorn Scandal? by JeSoul(f): 4:26pm On Sep 18, 2009
pres-elect,
You're right news does have to be verified, I totally agree with that. I don't agree when you say the videos "originated" with Fox. They came from those independent journos who went thru one Breitbat internet news site and then Fox jumped on it - for obvious reasons. This is the information age pres, it doesn't take 1 week to "verify" news anymore.

davidylan:

Hilarious. Why do we suddenly "think" acorn is bad? have you not seen the videos? have many groups both left and right not raised accusations against acorn in the past? Is anyone saying acorn hasn't done any good?

This is what I mean when I said you hardly address the issue directly but simply deflect and point somewhere else. The topic is about the recent scandal - not acorns history with the senate. I don't think you have even actually commented directly on the 5 videos.
and fine I will concede the $8 bill point, you are right and I am wrong. Now can we get back to the videos?

Has ACORN never had a scandal until 2009? Why is it so important now that we think CNN and all other media organisations shld make it frontpage? Is there an ulterior motive to all these sudden hunger for "honest journalism" when we have bigger issues like healthcare to worry about?
Please supply where I or anyone else asked to make it "frontpage"? thank you.
I believe the topic says "why is CNN not covering it" which they only started doing in the past 2 days when the story has been out for over a week.
Re: Why Isn't CNN Reporting The Recent Acorn Scandal? by preselect(m): 5:02pm On Sep 18, 2009
@jesoul,
in an age where people believe there are death panels, obama was born in kenya, he is a mus-lim, all news propagated from the right wing media and its cronies . . . any news item originating from fox news or its cronies has to be verified thoroughly. why wont those guys talk to rick sanches of cnn? not that their story is false, but it creates room for outlets like msnbc to really take their time to verify it b4 announcing it.

it's not like the jeremiah wright story which fox was first to report, but videos of which were from church cameras and not from fox associated ''independent'' video producers.

if it was the other way round, fox news wont report it asap. and i understand. remember fox said the march in washington was a million people. and others felt it was like 60,000 people. did fox tell you that one of the leading organisers of the march has written in his website that obama is an indonesian mus-lim thug? well, fox news has its way and msnbc has its way too. but forget msnbc b/c they and fox are about the same thing from opposite sides. cnn and the rest still had to wait to be sure b/c not all things from fox are facts. journalism.huh? did fox tell u that the woman in the video u posted was just fooling the producers? did they tell you that police checked her out and found that she was just blabbing? journalism is alive right?

so my dear, if i were u, i wont believe everything i hear so fast. reagan said, trust, but verify. how much more when i dont trust? hmmn wink
