Oyo To Restructure 105,000 Workforce, Says Ajimobi by angeljc(m): 1:45am On Aug 01, 2016
Oyo State is to restructure its 105,000 workforce and will not retrench as being speculated, Governor Abiola Ajimobi said yesterday.

Ajimobi, who clarified this in Ibadan, said restructuring of the workforce was aimed at enhancing its productivity.

He put the workforce at 105,000, saying many workers were unproductive.

Ajimobi said the restructuring would place each worker where he or she would be more productive.

“You know we have three types of workers. We have workers, who have the expertise and are ready to work. We have those without expertise, but are ready to learn and work. We also have those who don’t have the expertise and are not ready to work or learn.
“We want to ensure that every worker has something doing and doing well for government to justify his or her salary. Today, we need to drive our revenue to be self-sufficient,” he said.

He said restructuring was also reason for the government to strengthen its educational system, because development is knowledge-based.

This is great news!!
Time to focus more on private business, we ain't talking 2x2 corner shops o.
Less money Oyo govt has to spend on civil servants, more money to develop Oyo state.

The state's civil service is bloated while the limitless opportunity Agriculture offers is yet to be harnessed. Being the largest state in the South and almost 9 times the landmass of Lagos, how many billions is it earning from supplying the over 20 million Lagos residents with food?

Great question.

The Oyo AgricOyo initiative is something many should look into.

Agriculture and Technology is the new oil. Population keeps increasing, mouths need to be fed.

Proximity to Lagos gives Oyo an edge. Why should it serve as mere route for trailers load of farm produces from the North heading to Lagos. From well organized dairy milk production to vegetables and fruits cultivation run by the private sector, the State's economy will soar even to be a civil servant receiving N30,000 monthly will be like a waste of time!

Agreed. That's why I respect Ajimobi for looking into that. Having all you mentioned in Oyo saves time and money. Ogun is taking advantage of its proximity to Lagos, hope Oyo grabs the opportunity to become SW's agricultural hub. Any state feeding Lagos and Oyo population will swim in cash.

We urgently need a large scale agricultural business in the West.
