Who expected Shehu to admit this government is divisive? Buhari's appointment is favourable to the north, everyone knows this to be true.

Hmmm...

Well people only believe what they want to see. We know the factions responsible for this.

I however still think security appointments and some other sensitive positions are lopsided ethnically - but I cannot blame you because your predecessor wasn't any different.

I still remain that OBJ had the best track record in unbiased appointments.

Nigeria should just get better, that's all that matters. Wether na Igbo, Hausa or Yoruba or Others ( No Pun intended); abi na Christian or Muslim.

Just like how many people have failed in writing through the constant use of abbreviations, so many nairalanders cannot write a convincing statement without being unnecessarily divergent.

What Nigeria needs is good governance regardless of the ethnic background of the person providing it. Personally, I don't care if everyone in the cabinet is from the North, as long as we get good governance. Nigerian governments prior to Buhari have all observed federal character principle in their appointments, has the country benefited from it?! To be honest, non-observance of federal character wouldn't be an issue if the people appointed are incorruptible, dedicated technocrats ready to do the job.

The British and America newspapers are saying that Buhari's appointments are lop-sided in favour of the North, what they have failed to acknowledge is that there is no such thing as federal character principle in their countries. In the UK and USA, people are appointed to federal public office largely on merit and at the discretion of the leader of the country. No one would raise any eyebrows if the Prime Minister of the UK appoints the majority of his cabinet from a particular geographical region, because the structure of the economy is such that whoever is appointed must perform.

Corruption, ethnic bigotry and religious fundamentalism are hydra-headed monsters that have eaten deep into the fabric of the Nigeria society, and sadly, a million Buharis will still find it difficult to root them out.

The Presidency on Monday said contrary to claims by some individuals and groups, President Muhammdu Buhari has treated all Nigerians without bias for ethnicity or religion in his appointments and policies since he assumed office on May 29, 2015.

It said claims that the present administration was targeting Christians and members of the opposition were without foundation.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said this in a statement while reacting to The London Telegraph’s article “Children Face Death by Starvation in Northern Nigeria” published on Saturday.

Shehu said the article repeated a claim from an earlier piece “Nigeria Using UK Aid to Persecute President’s Political Foes” published on April 12, indicating that Nigeria was diverting United Kingdom’s aid monies away from defeating the Islamist terror group Boko Haram towards those the newspaper identifies as political opponents of the administration.

He said the statement was incorrect and unhelpful.

The presidential spokesman said to suggest Buhari’s government as deepening Muslim-Christian division was not only untrue, but played into the hands of Boko Haram who wished to divide Nigerians along religious lines.

He said, “As for claims that the administration is targeting Christians and the opposition, these are without foundation.

“Since assuming office, President Buhari has treated all Nigerians without bias for ethnicity or religion – as the composition of his cabinet and the policies and programmes of his administration demonstrate.

“To suggest his government as deepening Muslim-Christian division is not only untrue, but plays into the hands of Boko Haram who wish to divide Nigerians along religious lines.

“Fighting this group is key priority of President Buhari’s administration. Indeed the international community has widely acknowledged his determination to defeat terrorism in Nigeria and the entire Lake Chad Basin.

“There is nothing to gain by attempting to mould public opinion against these facts. Therefore we invite The Telegraph to visit Nigeria: to witness first hand not only the challenges we face, but the administration’s determination to confront them.”

Shehu noted that while the claims in both articles were attributed to an unnamed source in the United States and “Western officials”, yet the first article drew the condemnation of the US Embassy in Abuja as having drawn conclusions directly opposite to the position of the US government when it was first published.

He explained that the UK government does not give development aid to the Nigerian government for operations against Boko Haram.

He added that the Federal Government is not in position to divert aid monies meant for refugees.

He also noted that the blame for the plight of refugees lies with members of Boko Haram, saying they are its cause, not the Nigerian government.

He added, “To state the facts: the UK government does not give development aid to the Nigerian administration for use in military operations against Boko Haram. Where British military support – such as intelligence – is provided, it is precisely and only, given for operations directly against Boko Haram.

“Similarly, the Nigerian Government is in no position to divert aid monies used for emergency relief for refugees or IDP camps for any other purpose, as these are dispensed directly by DFID, USAID, the United Nations, the International Red Cross, Doctors without Borders and many other organisations – with which we enjoy excellent relations.

“The humanitarian situation in these camps is real. The administration remains deeply concerned about the medical, health and nutrition challenges and we are doing everything with the limited resources we have at our disposal to improve the situation

One of the greatest bane of our development in this country is tribalism and nepotism. See all these culprits above me. To a very sane mind, what should matter most is 'what you can do', and not 'where you come from.' As for me, I care less whether all of them are from Daura as long as they bring about a better service and new lease of life.
Lest I forget, I thought the wailers once said they don't need Buhari's appointment? Why the sudden outcry ? Anyway, wailers must to wail.
God bless Nigeria.

At least thank God the western world is observing.Buhari is ruling like he would be the last president of nigeria.garba shehu I had rather be quiet than tell lies that even animals are beginning to agitate against. I still remember how amaechi lied during the apc campaign that buhari's cook was a christian and I marvel at the level of lieing that fathers and politicians have attained just to get power.i have never seen majority of nigerians pray for disintegration like I have seen in this government. Buhari says nigeria is not divisible yet you have turned a section of this nation to third class citizens in their own so country by rejecting them in a glaring manner.this is slavery and it is an abomination particularly in a 21st century.buhari its so obvious that you hate ibos with a passion and do the needful by sending us away from nigeria. Racism is even better than what igbos go through in nigeria at least oyibo shows respect but in my own so called nigeria, the leader who is supposed to build bridges is treating the igbos with disgust and disdain.Marriage is and can never be compulsory. I have always been an advocate of one nigeria but with what I see, , corruption fight highly selective and targeted more at a particular section of the country I only see a shredded nigeria. There was indeed a country.
