Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission NHRC, Prof Ben Angwe took to his twitter handle to slam CBN for ordering banks to subsidize the dollar for Muslim pilgrim.

Other Nigerians on twitter also reacted to the CBN directives to banks to sell dollars to intending Muslim pilgrims at N197 to $1 as against the N400 to $1 it currently sells. Many say if this could be done for Hajj pilgrims, it wouldn't be a bad idea if its done in the Health sector, Education sector etc.

When meaningful projects is to be carried out, they scream Nigeria is broke, but to subside for a project that is not beneficial to the country, the money miraculously flies in.

Some people would defend this despicable act, just watch.

Buhari has infected this country with illiteracy and irrationality, imagine a situation where citizen who contribute to the economy can't get dollar for their business but this ottoman govt is giving it out subsidized dollars for pilgrimage to a country whose economy is more viable, further enriching the country. Is this not madness. Government should wash it hands away from anything religion, it has no business with it.

Exchange rate subsidization for Hajj! This, indeed, is a clear manifestation of misplaced priority by the CBN if the concern raised above is true.

Though I have always been a critic to this current exchange rate regime because of its inflated, anticipated benefits that advocates claimed the economy stand to gain (same poorly anticipated 'benefits' I forsaw would further rubbish the economy on the average), never a time did I rally vote for the previous model to dispose one of the most precious resource, as at now ,to those visiting Holy places. I want to believe Godwin and Kemi are ingenuously implementing a script handed over by a 'Force', because knowledgeable economists wouldn't do such!

This is an ailing economy and she needs to recover quickly by efficiently allocating its scare resources. Like the above comments chiding this alleged move by the CBN, there are critical sectors begging for these currency. So why the accentuation on a frivolity-Pilgrim?
