LagosNIV: Sure, but if everything is fine, adjustment of status can take up to 3 - 6 months before it's concluded. Putting this long processing time into your plan works fine, at least for those many friends that had done it without any hassles. This is the set of people I'm addressing. Prepare well ahead of time, get all the required supporting documents, you would be absolutely fine. 2 Likes |

LagosismyHome: Not everyone has the same opportunity. This roundabout thing is common among the Indians whereas Nigerians follow another path. I remember when I was in grad school, there is this Malian friend that did his BS in MN for 4 years, after which he did post-opt for 12 months and extended it for another 17 months. When all his opt options finished, he came to my school for his MS, which is another 2 years. Luckily during his MS he got Canadian PR to live and work in Quebec. After his MS and after spending 8.5 years in US as a student, he finally moved to Quebec, Canada. 9 Likes |

LagosismyHome:So, in essence, your F-1 visa gives you an advantage in applying for and securing a Canadian PR? Is it available to only students in the US? What route does one go through for this, that differs from the current skilled workers programme going on? |

Akobundu1: If you ask me I would say for me SAT should be fine but don't forget those schools required that anyone that English is not his first language must show a prove of proficient in English language. This is why it's advisable to do the TOEFL, most especially the undergrads. However, you can always write your choice schools for a waiver, you might have a strong point. |
Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 10 by LagosismyHome(f): 4:32pm On Aug 23, 2016 |
lobito007: No i dont think F-1 gets any advantage (but the higher your degree the more points you get ) and it is opened to everyone if you meet the requirement ........ It should be the same current skilled PR workers program As a student applying from the US , it was very quick back then to get compared to if you were applying from Nigeria . Hence it was a good backup if you are not ready to move back to naija yet and after 4 years you become Canadian ...however i dont know if that is still the case as in the quick processing time . |
Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 10 by imperiouxx(m): 4:37pm On Aug 23, 2016 |
lobito007: Like I described, the Malian friend applied for federal skilled work scheme through Quebec. Because Mali is French speaking country, he went for Quebec. And because he got his BS in US and had worked for a pharmaceutical company for 29 months (opt) in US, he was considered a good PR candidate (science) in Quebec. So, your US degree should give you an edge. He told me then that they want more people from science fields there. |

imperiouxx:I wonder how they can survive grad school with those type of spellings and abbreviations. bejust, Conditional admission means that your admission packet is not sufficient or strong enough for an unconditional admission (either low GPA score or GRE score, different background from undergrad study). So you still have to prove yourself that you can survive the program by making a 3.0 then the conditional status will be taken off. Schools do not just hand you a conditional admission if you have the sufficient requirement for the program without deficiencies. 2 Likes |

dicapino:I have two advice for you. Rent a book through chegg, make a scanned copy of it if it's not voluminous. You have atleast two weeks to return the book and you'll get your full money back. Secondly, you can check bookfi.en if the pdf version of it is available. You can use betterwolrdbooks.com or Ebay. 4 Likes 2 Shares |

My mock interview Me: good morning sir Vo: morning, can I have your passport and i20? Me: passed it. Vo: so, tell me why you are choose the school. Me: UB students do not spend much time in class taking notes but rather spend more time in the lab doing hands on practical and research as this is what I need to be more effective and professional in my field of studies and also my basis for selecting an institution. Vo: why technology management? Me: as a project monitoring engineer and a leader in my dad's company, I want to create value for the company using technology and other resources to solve problems and improve efficiency and effectiveness in the areas of project management, safety and general engineering skills so the company can meet a global standard as this would also enhance the socio-economic development in Nigeria. Vo:when did you graduate? Me: 2010 Vo: what have you been doing? Me: after my nysc, started working in dad's construction company as an assistant project monitoring engineer, went for a six month course in OSHT and got promoted to my present position as a PME. Vo: ok, are you married? Me: yes. Vo: why are you not travelling with your family? Me: I am not travelling with them because I am not moving permanently to the state. I am only going for studies for 24months after which I would return to Nigeria to join my beautiful family. Vo: smiles, whos paying for this? Me: my dad,engineer......... Vo: what does he do? Me : he's a civil engineer, the chairman and CEo of.......also into estate management, buys, sells and develop prperties. Vo: ok,I will be approving your visa. you will be needing your i20 at the point of entry. Me: I get big head my head come double ! Took the white paper and went out rejoicing. Na God sure pass!
