Do Christianity Have Anything To Do With The Old Testament?
I have seen many people here saying Christianity started in the new Testament but still refer to the old testament during arguments.
Let say Christ lived a life worth emulating, he preached love and practised it then his followers must have edited the writings about him because they loved him so much and could be seen as God on Earth.
Stories like the feeding of the 5000, calming of the storm, raising lazarus from the dead could have be written by his crazy followers to attract more people into Christendom (the kingdom or a community where love is practised).
Just the way our ancestors gave scary taboos to avoid us doing somethings for our own benefit.
But most of the morden day christians are majorly pretenders, they form holiness but don't practise righteousness and love.
What do you have to say?

Christianity has everything to do with The Old Testament. In fact, Jewish Judaism means Jesus Christ and have the same number 444 462.

don't you think the new testatment somehow contradicted the old testament laws, e.g in the things we should eat

The old testament intentionally hides a lot of spiritual mysteries. A serious person seeking after God cannot afford to exclude it.

And the places where the new testament contradicted the old one which testament is to be believed?

Are you asking for the sake of knowledge or just for the sake of an argument and running a thread?

Judaism, as practised today rejects Christ. That's a major difference.

I've never seen any contradictions. Which ones in particular? The old testament flows very well into not just the era of Christ but goes further into the the future in my understanding.

what about the part in the Old testament that talks about Unclean and Clean things while a part in the New testament says everything created by God is clean.
And also the old testament talks about an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth but Christ preaches forgiveness.

Knowledge

Why do u seek the knowledge? Are u a Christian? Do you want to become one and need this clarification in order to decide?

I ask this because my time is precious and I dont want to waste it on a thread with no direction.

for clearification sir.
Can one become a Christian by just doing good and without subscribing to the old testament?
And based on reality are the stories in the old testament true? Because miracles don't exist.
Maybe Christ is like Buddha

Oh that! Actually, that's what got Him killed.

That's because Christ was ushering in a new age. I guess someone can see it as a contradiction.

But like I said, there is some spiritual mysteries hidden in the laws and prophesies of the old testament. The laws for example. They are shadows of spiritual principles that are still applicable.

I've experienced God from both perspectives, when unclean and cleanness from of my spirit did not affect my spirituality and when petty things that marred my spirit did. I've also met God as overly merciful(that it annoyed) and as merciless in vengeance.

That's why your perception and mine concerning those contradicting concepts are different. Both forgiveness and vengeance and requirements of cleanliness can also be found in both testaments in other complimentary provisions. So they are both revelation of the personality of God.

Interesting question

Even I am evaluating things here
Re: Do Christianity Have Anything To Do With The Old Testament? by hopefulLandlord: 7:39pm On Aug 16, 2016
I'm interested in this because I've seen several times on Nairaland that Christians use the argument tha they're not under old testament whenever they're asked certain questions they can't answer without contradicting it

But then turn around and use the old testament for their argument when its convenient

okay. I got this question. Is Christianity about Belief or Knowledge?

Knowledge brings belief. Or belief is based on a certain specific knowledge.
Re: Do Christianity Have Anything To Do With The Old Testament? by hahn(m): 7:54pm On Aug 16, 2016
Unfortunately, even Christians themselves cannot come to a consensus on a lot of things in the bible.

They are a really confused bunch. Imagine one religion having 33,000 denominations. ANd most hate each other with a passion. One example is RCCG members and JW.

If they can finally come to a consensus on the OT it would be great. But it would help the case of the Christians more if they could just remove the OT entirely from the bible.

Unfortunately, the prophecy of a "messiah" was in the OT. They are officially fvcked cheesy

But Christianity is also about faith, and faith in anything that is not real is bad.
How does Knowledge, faith and belief relate in Christendom.

hope you heard the Vatican said the year 2016 is the last year Jesus is expected to come. They said Jesus was probably drunk when he said he will come back.
That is one of my prove when I said that his followers wrote things Jesus didn't say or do.

By real you mean physical. Why is that bad? Do you believe in intuition? It's not so real, is it. How about love and hate? How real are they?

Then consider that God is Spirit. So by spirit or intuition you a person realizes the presence of God, the Spirit. That's the knowledge. Faith is what convinces him that the knowledge is real, and keeps them holding to it and over time. Faith and belief are the same thing. One more commonly used as a verb and the other a noun (faith)

I believe we have a God but religions all over the world don't know his nature.
I'm seeking the truth.
I also believe that Jesus was a popular figure in his time that preaches oneness, love, hardwork and forgiveness but he was overhyped by his followers.

There is no proof that a character like Jesus ever existed.

It is all simply another fairytale. In the same category as the three little pigs, Pinnochio, spiderman etc

Even the old testament is a volume of many books with various ideas that may even differ from one another. In my view the old testament as a whole is by inspiration of God and they contain the human story. But l do not believe everything written therein are to be taken literally. We have inspiring books like Ecclesiastes, psalms, proverbs(my favorite), job, and of course Esther. Then we have the beautiful story of Joseph and the eventful, adventurous life of David. Of course the old testament is very important to me as a christian and l cherish it, but l do not enjoy all books equally, for instance l find it difficult to understand the prophets. Also, l believe in the worldview of some of the old testament authors, God is responsible for everything both good and evil, even Satan does not act on his own, and he is like a messenger of God.
Finally to understand Jesus we need the old testament, his story, teachings and worldview are all together incomplete without it.

Knowledge (not goose bumps). That's how you feel the presence of God. A person knows beyond doubt. That's how I do.

That knowledge is also the difference between people prone to backsliding in their faith and the people who cannot be moved. Both are in the church. If there is no basis to the belief, which is the knowledge otherwise referred to as conviction, the first waves that arise against you shall carry you wherever they please.

if any of the religions in the world have Knowledge (knowing his nature) about God don't you think that would have been the end to Man's problem?
But No. Religions are based of beliefs.

Hmmm, l wonder how you got that from my post. Again, l said in the view of some of the old testament authors nothing happens without God's permission, both the good and the bad, so that even Satan in the book of job is presented as a messenger. However the new testament makes it clear that Satan is an adversary who has come to kill, steal and destroy contrary to God's purpose.
