You can as well head to the north and set a quran ablaze. I'm just glad they didn't take laws into their hands

Firstly, this even took place in Ogun not Kano and secondly
their is no "freedom to offense" anywhere in the constitution
of Nigeria or other sane countries hence they would have been taking
crime not law into their hands.

Hausas and yoruba muslim shouting 'kill him' 'kill him' should know that laws are not based on emotions or morality. Let them tell us the legal code of the constitution the guy broke by naming his dog after Buhari.

Every lawyer of Eastern origin should take up this case, if the guy were hausa, Arewa elders and their yoruba muslim stooges would have fought for his release during GEJ regime.

The same buhari that called nigerians 'dogs and baboons' doesn't want to be named after a dog.

This is Southwest dominated by Yoruba who have Hausa, Igbo & others as occupants.

If he did it in the North then that would be a purpose breach of peace.

He's on a neutral soil, there should not be any problems there.

Sorry but yoruba muslims do not consider yorubaland neutral for Hausas, they believe yorubaland belong to hausas.

Stop being unreasonable! Not everything is written in the constitution.
Tge Igbo guy's action is very provocative and could have led to civil unrest if the police didn't come in. Yes, You're free to name your dog as you deem fit but you must respect feelings of people around you in doing so.

Your right to freedom to name your dog as you like MUST NOT cause any discomfort to another man. If the Hausa mana had taken law in his hands and dispense jungle justice to that provocative Igbo man, you and your likes will run here to condemn him. Now that he did the right thing by reporting the case, you're talking gibberish of constitutionality.

Do you know how the civil war started?

Since you as a yoruba muslim now agree that 'his crime' is not written in the constitution. Now tell us, from what constitution will the muslim hausa/yoruba Judge pass his/her judgement?

The case is dead on arrival .

The man got the right to name his dog anything he likes.

Buhari is a generic name in the Nigeria, so how does naming his dog Buhari affect public peace.

Why do you people like defending nonsense cos he's of your ethnic stock. This is how ethnic clashes start from nothing because of the stupidity of people like Chinakwe. Are you telling me that if me as a Yoruba man especially with all the hate towards Yorubas in that quarter as propagated by Nnamdi Kanu and his minions, go to the East and walk about in Onitsha main market with a dog writing Ojukwu on its body and hanging an Ojukwu slate on its head will get kudos from Igbos there. Won't I be attacked?

I am Yoruba.

Your argument is baseless.

He did it in Yoruba land and not the North.

Using Ojukwu and east as an example makes no sense, try again.

Fa Fa foul. It is in that UK and US that breach of peace is most often used. Half of the people arrested and booked in any given weekend is under the breach of peace laws in UK, it's even worse in US the police get called for all sorts of domestics and just book breach of peace.

It's not criminal offence but you sure don't want too many of those in your records. I've witnessed more than a fair few anti social behavior arrests and gone to bail a few friends the morning after. And I've had a friend who was told by the judge one more time and you'll be spending 30 days in jail. He also got a lengthy community and paid a 1000 euro fine and that was a lenient judgement in that case

I don't understand where your argument is tipped.

Are you saying it is a breach of peace in those places if I inscribe Obama or any leader's generic name on my pet? I think not.

Take a good look at the name, Fortemose Chinadokwe!!!! What does that tells us Defaults in Socio Cultural Values which is Perculiar to the Igbos and a few Southerners!!! Its very unfortunate that we have some blood thirsty Igbos and Southerners in Nigeria. Alot of these people have desecrated their land and have made their land abominable, hostile and inhabitable for strangers. No social harmony and no hospitality at all because alot of igbos and southerners are divided amongst themselves. that's why we have a hyped case of desperations, killings, fighting, religious coveteousness in the name of God and Gold with escalated cases of kidnapping in these part of the Country. It seems a handful of these people lacks the lacks understanding about the values of peace. Go check majority of these people personal life and business affairs, social ethics and you will see that they are by far worse than the Yorubas and Hausas they are trying to get out of the way for an headway in Politics and Political Relevance, the picture for most of these Igbos is usually Ugly because they are used to seeing life from the Ugly and gory perspective instead.

This attitude and socio cultural threadings are visible among both the Educated and the Non Educated igbos, when you see them you will know them because they will always show their hands sooner or later along with the stuff they are made off, they claim they are frank but to me most of these people are brute, crude, salvaging and unpruned in reasoning. Alot of them brag and don't believe in the concept of privilege yet they call the name of God the most among the Christian population. They believe what they earn they deserve by their own power and affronted efforts.

Most talk and act before they ever think. All these I have said may not be the truth, but its the fact!!! This is no attempt to rubbish the integrity of any Nigerian Tribe but we must be bold enough to look each other in the face and tell ourselves the ugly truth.
To be frank, My 3 best friends on this planet earth are Igbos, to include my beloved wife who is a gift from God to me and my inspiration and she happens to be from the Eastern part of Nigeria. I believe something good can still come out of these Nazarethans of Nigeria as we still have some great and dynamic names from the eastern part of Nigeria but the truth remains that some elements of weed and pack of wolves that surrounds them won't allow them to flourish and come to light.

Been brilliant is different from been intelligent. The Igbos have alot to learn from the Hausas and the Yorubas. The Igbo race of Nigeria will do well only if the Igbo leaders and followers can come together and ask themselves what went wrong and whats the way forward cause come 2019 election, an igbo candidate will be my Choice of Presidential Candidate, be it Charles Soludo, Dr Obiangeli Ezekwezili, Rochas Okorocha or Rotimi Amaechi. I believe in people who believe in the success and good will of Nigeria together as one.
Only miserable and misechieveous people will continue to have reasons for blood shed. Those who have nothing good can never have reasons to give anything good because they have nothing good to give. I use this platform to endorse an Igbo President come 2019. God bless the Igbos!! God bless Nigeria!! One love to my Igbo brothers and sisters who share in my opinion.

you have spoken well...

how about giving them their biafra since
its obvious they don't want to be part of
Nigeria which I think will save us all

This is the problem with us.

Rather than face these problems & profer possible lasting solutions we want to patch, gun-scare and ignore the products of these problems.

Unlawful arrest & detention of someone else is why you've decided to use this term?

You must want to dig up youtube videos from Obama's first term election victory & see whites do these things and no one was arrested for it even though blacks didn't like it.

My father's name is not custom to my father alone, so you're free. As long as the person my father's picture is not hung around the pig's neck to show specifics.

....Conduct likely to cause breach of public peace....that's your answer. Just imagine a person of northern extraction residing in Yenagoa, in reaction to this provocation, if unchecked, goes ahead to name and inscribe his billy goat with OJUKWU. What would Ohaneze Ndigbo elders and youth fora say or do?
The Chinakwe man is a mischief maker with clear intent to precipitate civil strife. The law has ample provisions to deal with such persons and indeed such persons must be contained to prevent anarchy in the country.

Sweet Jesus!

Did he do it in the north, no!

It is similar to you & whomever you have a problem with are living in London, a neutral soil and he decides to give his pet your name, how does that breach the peace of London?

This is an Ibo man & a Hausa man in Yoruba land, a neutral soil. Does it breach the peace of the Yoruba, no.

Using Hausa in Yenogoa makes no sense.

The last time I saw a case like this was in primary school where making jest of someone's name made them cry to the class teacher who has to put a stop to it to protect the emotions of the taunted. In essence, this is very childish.

You obviously did not read the OP, the said dog was confirmed by reliable witness to have a certain name of his neighbours father inscribed on it.

The dog was taken by the defendants brother killed and eaten to hide the evidence
Story! So you believe that lies from the Nigerian Police? You mean that out of sudden the accusers can't even affort to snap the Dog if truly such thing happened? The truth is that the Zoo Police are just looking for excuses because its obvious to all discerning minds that they are victimizing the other guy to please the Northern.

I won't be happy about it for sure but he has not committed a crime that warrants he be arrested. he is still within his legal rights and boundaries.

My dear, as funny as this may sound, the Police are empowered by law to arrest any one who does any thing capable of breaching public peace. You may want to ask how can that action breach public peace?

Now imagine if the complainant had probably out of anger, gone ahead to engage the accused in physical combat. It would have turned out bad, right?

Acts which are capable of breaching public peace are such that, amongst other things, are considered provocative.

In saner climes, the police go/es to the scene to verify the claims and try to talk the man into seeing from the Hausa's angle which he has a right to ageee or disagree too and in any case, he cannot be forced.

If he disagrees, the police go/es back to the Hausa to explain to him/them how he has a right to such, try to calm them down and as usual tell them they will keep imvestigating and stay in touch with the Ibo man - simple.

This is civil not criminal.

I see why Nigeria is in trouble when people here throw away common sense because they're idle hero worshipers. People here have a right to freedom of expression. If it offends you grow up or simply say something back. Arresting a man for calling his buhari and parading them is bigger issue of violating our freedom as citezens of Nigeria.

They cant charge him with anything. Theres nothing illegal about his actions. This should be taken to court. Morans here defending this are disgusting spineless cattle brains. Buhari, Allah, Jesus, or who every you worship cant be above critique.

I quite agree with you on the methodology adopted by the Police on that case. They often usurp the powers of our Law courts by sumarilly prosecuting and passing judgements on accused persons.

But I disagree that this case is purely a civil matter. Whilst the complainant can seek redress under the civil law, a criminal proceeding can also be conveniently instituted against the accused.
