First of . . . you need to get the story straight.

I posted the bellow on same thread.
The complainant was a Mr. Buhari, a neighbor who felt offended. Agreed, the dog owner has the legal right to name his pet any name, fine, the northerners are easily offended (which I find appalling), but incitement to disturb the peace is a serious one.

According to the report, the man not only named his dog 'Buhari', his neighbor's name ( probably they were best of enemies), he wrote it on both sides of the dog -- that's overly mischievous, and a threat to public peace.

The location matters (he has a neighbour by that name). I remember naming my dog Hitler in the mid 90s (thinking he will be fierce, dog was as timid as a mouse . . . ended up being stolen and eaten by some neighbour), but that was in Ibadan (the average resident in my area then could careless, that is if they even know who or what Hitler represents) it would have been f00lish and insensitive to do that in a Jewish community, German community, even anywhere in Europe, or have a jewish neighbour.

We need to learn to live with each other in peace, even we think twice before naming our kids, checking to see how it will be perceived, that does not mean we do not have a right to.

It is not everything you have a right to, that you exercise your right on.

BTW, I think this should be a civil case, and the guy shouldn't be behind bars for over a week now, but this is a reflection of our immature justice system, that protects only the rich or influential.

This is by far the daftest shhh i have ever read in my life

I woke up to a thread with the caption"An Igbo Trader Arrested For Naming His Dog Buhari". https://www.nairaland.com/3293032/trader-arrested-naming-dog-buhari/8#48553955

This trader was arrested for not only calling his personal property buhari, but also inscribing the name buhari on both sides of his dog. He was arrested by the police for provocative behaviour capable of causing ethnic rivalry. The purpose of creating this thread is to use this particular scenario in comparing two countries (America and Nigeria) both practicing democracy and showing why they both advanced differently. Whatever judgement you reach after reading is a function of your IQ.
In 2010,an American pastor in the person of Terry Jones threatened to burn the koran, reason being he thinks Islam is a religion from the devil. He was condemned internationally, one would think he would be getting arrested sooner than later for threatening public peace by the FBI,but no arrest was made. He wasn't arrested because America as a country understands the principle of rights and privileges. It took a phone call from President Barack Obama to Pastor Terry Jones, appealing to his sensibilities to understand the consequences of his action on the safety of U.S troops serving in the Middle East, the planned koran burning wasn't to be after this emotional phone call.
Coming home, this igbo guy was arrested and kept in a cell, simply for naming his dog buhari, who is buhari?
On a closing note,by now we should be able to tell why both countries developed differently. One understands the conversation of dialogue, the other understands the conversation of force.
We can see the conversation of force in the way ipob, nda, this igbo trader cases are being handled.

Mynd44, reading this might help your sensibilities. Btw,i never insulted you. Gracias!

Excellent submission.

Where one's right ends is where another's begins. You have a right to stretch your arms as you wish but you have no right blocking me from passing. The Igbo man was provoking a reaction which could have led to serious fight. The Hausa man did well by reporting him. The police didn't handle the issue well by detaining him beyond 24 hours for a civil offence but that may have saved him from being attacked by the Hausa man.

@OP: Why can't the idiot give his dog his own family's name or father's name? We all know how the country is tensed up, common sense demands people should be mindful of what they say or do as it will be misconstrued. Freedom of speech is everybody's right, but freedom after speech can't be guaranteed for security reasons...

I have being thinking of these:

1. Where was the location since "Nigeria" Civil Right is based on location?
Ans: South West

2. Is the President the first or the Las man on earth to bear "Buhari"?
And: No

3. Are animals (dogs/cats etc) not named by other names. E.g Lucy, John, Benjamin. If yes; why was he/she not reported to the police of being a threat to peace in the the location.

4. Why is it when issues springs-up in a "said location" the first you will here is: you know you are a host why not please them... in my mind "I thought we are all nigerian".

5. Nigeria police needs "continuous" mental education / re-orientation

Personal note: True Federalism Federalism Federalism + Removal of State of origin
