This is coming from Siasia himself. It does somehow echoes my earlier statements.

Siasia blames strikers, ref for loss

Flying Eagles coach Samson Siasia turned on his strikers after the team lost their second game on the bounce at the Fifa Under-20 World Cup in Egypt.

The Nigerians were beaten 2-0 by Spain despite, once again, dominating their opponents and Siasia said it was down to his forwards to put away the numerous opportunities the team created.

"I believed we had more chances in the first half but I don't know why our strikers always go to sleep. I don't really know how many chances we need to score a goal.

"It is so sad that we have strikers that can't even score goals. If you don't score goals, you can't win any match," the former Nigeria international lamented.

Siasia's was equally unhappy to see his team concede a soft penalty and another player walk off with a red card for the second consecutive game, especially when a Spanish player got off with only a yellow card for a similar offence as that which got Haruna Lukman sent off in the opening game, and he did not spare the referee.

"I don't know what is going on may be the referees don't want us to go to the next round of the competition. It was obvious that the penalty given to the Spanish team was not a penalty. It is just ridiculous."

Nigeria have a slim chance of advancing as best losers if they beat group whipping boys Tahiti, and results from elsewhere go their way.

Below is also a comment from the same website.
It's a pity that you chose those same strikers. You are the coach and you must have watched them before selecting them. These your strikers, have they ever scored a goal before? I don't even think we can get even half a goal past Tahiti. It's all over for this team

-Yes sure no crime in playing a MF as a defender but why do that when you have a defender to use?

Monday James and Ambrose efe are two known top performing defenders. When Siasia drafted chibuzor okoronkwo from the midlfield( a  right footed player)  to man the left full back, ordinarily it looked weird. But in the end we saw that he did the job even better than the real defenders. Besides lets not forget that the coaches would have watched him play in the central defence before they exposed him(Obiora nwakwo) to a full match. Yes sometimes somethings go well during training sessions but the real match response fall short. The coach recognised this and re-drafted him to his normal position. The question is, has the defense really faired better after placing the real defenders in their position?. That in itself is a debate for another time.

- Ighalo had only one shot at goal (against Venezuela) and you think that is good enough for a striker undecided? Maybe even at my age I can still play for the national team then?
In our two games, only two strikes from distance (on target). That of Aluko (against Spain) and Igahlo. Others (about 20 of them) went to stand 520! You think that is good enough?

I am not sure this is exactly true, however I will have to re-watch the matches to make further comments on this. But like I said earlier , BARCA does not shoot from long range and they are UCL champions.

- - Haruna took only one freekick, which was really good but was saved by the keeper but unluckily he got a red. Are you now saying that No Haruna no free kick for Naija again? There are about 20+ players in that team for goodness sake.

While it is nice to have , I have stated earlier that even in our glory days USA94 and ATLANTA96 we did not have a very good set piece specialist. But that did not hinder the team from attaining good results.

- Ighalo may have been chosen by his teamates to be their captain (at least according to you and I will take your word for it) but tell me sincerely, is he good enough to be a captain? I would have thought, Siasia can do better than that.
- Are you saying that Ighalo is showing the hunger and passion you talked about?

From a personal point of view I have not found any  of the players (may be  except haruna) in the team that lack hunger.Sincerely thats my take. If this hunger has translated into the needed result in  our matches so far  is another question all together. Here I see psychology being the problem and not skill, the pressure of possible exit is getting the better of the boys.

For Ighalo we must understand that the team selection has been made largely on the strength of training sessions and a few low-key tune up matches. The coach will not be wrong to base his judgement of the players on this few tests. Yes we have seen cases where second-fiddle players in training sessions become heros. Messi started the 2005 U-20 as a sub for argentina. I am sure IGHALO would have greatly impressed. That lone strike against venezuela is world class. A good foreign coach will just use that to judge that he his a material that can be worked upon.
I am however suprised that I am the only one that knows that he was picked by the players in an open election between him and Chima uchechi.

I will not write off the flying eagles just yet. If you need spirit this boys have got it in abundance, there was no pedestrian play at anytime on the pitch.
That said, if things had gone our way, we would have been hailing Siasia, now it is fair enough that he gets the stick. And i support that in total as long as it is objective though. Selection was wrong, he tried to correct it, but the dammage was done already.
It is quite insructive to note that people still stand up for him though, thats what previous good performnace gets you. It shows yu are capable and siasia without doubt is. Perhaps if we managed to wriggle through we could come good. Who knows, thats what i hope for tho.

Santon plays left back for Inter and he is doing well (though sometimes make mistakes but that is expected. It is normal). While I admit to the highlighted (for the benefit of doubt), will you be kind enough to admit also that the gamble to play Nwankwo as a defender did not pay off? More annoying is the fact that there was no reason to.
Has the defense done better, technically yes ( they were not as shaky as in the match with Venezuela) but obviously no because they let in two goals against Spain. The first was almost a replica of the goal in our first match but that penalty was a soft one to say the least. We played a better match but could not score. In the words of Siasia "If you don't score goals, you can't win matches".

For goodness sake, we are NOT Barca and neither are we Chelsea. This is a national team and you will agree that the approach is and should be DIFFERENT! You have 8 players in Barca who can play and pass to each other with their eyes closed. Its automated if you ask me. Playing in national competitions is a different ball game. Just like the UCL is different from league matches. Find another excuse please!

one mopol:

Even before 1994 - Christopher Ohenhen. And in our glory days- Okocha! should I go on! What are you talking about? If he is not a dead ball specialist, then I wonder who is moreover even if we never had then, is that an excuse not to have at least 2 players with such abilities in our squad now?

Low key shekini? In the words of Siasia" “We have confidence and we have the players to do us proud. The training camps in Qatar and Spain have helped the team greatly and we are heading to Egypt believing we can conquer,” said Siasia, a former World Cup star."

Let me explain. Playing for your club is one thing, it is another level to play for your country. It is not accepted that in a country of 140 million (I'm beginning to doubt that figure) these are the best 22 players we could get?
These players should be more than grateful that they are part of the chosen few. It is an opportunity of a life time. Playing for your country is as good as going to war and fighting for your country. You fight till the end. You sweat and play football like your life depended on it. Forgive me but I'm yet to see such passion in any of our players. . .well, save a few and NO Ighalo is NOT one of them.
There is a reason why he Siasia is coach and that reason is because we know he is good (he did wonders with the class of 2005) but it's not hard to explain what is going on now. There are no strikers in the team. Even he attested to this.

There is a way out and by all means they should spank Tahiti 20-0 and go ahead in this competition, any thing short of that will be considered a failure.

One of the greatest displays of ALL times. This is one of the best and greatest performance you will ever see by any team in the world.

As a Nigerian fan, i am very disappointed that we lost a match that we seemingly had control of. What some of us are writing here is very disheartening, for one comparison between Amodu and Siasia should never be made.
His team is not scoring goals, but at least they play football. You call what Amodu's boys do football? Siasia is by far the better coach, and light years ahead of Amodu.
To be honest, i really don't care if we qualify to the next round or not. Reason is that even if we qualify, we might not score the goals to win us the cup, though miracles do happen. But what am happy about is the fact that we have future players for the national team, provided the NFF  don't wake up drunk and appoint somebody like Amodu again to take charge of what is the hottest coaching seat in world football.
Always check www.gamegist.com for updates, and don't forget, you can always leave comments.

Thank you ma broda. some of us are so short - sighted. The Flying Eagles play some of the most composed football, just that they cannot score.dats not enough reason for the shit flying around from some people here.lets give respect to whom it is due, and Siasia damn well deserves a lot of respesct from Nigerians.

My friend if you want to teach the English a lesson because of slave trade, then do that with the 3 lions(senior team) and not this age grade competition where we Africans are rarely truthful.

Thanks to Ghana anyway. Results like this give us some hope that our team might just get to the next round as one of the best losers.

Abeg there is nothing wrong with Siasia. Those critics have forgotten that he has taken two or three teams to the finals in both the World Cup and in the Olympics; yet, he was assigned coach of the Flying Eagles barely three months ago, that's without accounting for all the procedural, political, and administrative problems he had encountered at the hands of the NFA. Still, the losses are respectable in that the team played well but were not able to strike on target, and that they played both games a man down and conceded an unfair penalty in game two.

I like Siasia as much as the next Nigerian but sometimes his actions are unexplainable. I thought Rabiu Ibrahim was injured, turns out he wasn't. How are we sure that the first choice GK, Ajiboye, is truly injured. Remember the olympics finals, Ogbuke sat on the bench all through the game. When Nigerians complained, Siasia said, "Oh, he was injured." How come he got injured so suddenly?

The lack of a clinical finisher in the team is another puzzling fact. What about Chrisantus or even Worgu? The strikers in our team right now, all of them, are more like wingers and assistant strikers. So, there, we went to an international tournament without a goal scorer. It has happened in the past but we always have very good wingers and half-way strikers to make up for the lack of a goal poacher. This time, average wingers.

You are very wrong. No one has said on this forum that Siasia is a BAD coach. Search the whole thread and post if you find one. What we are saying is that some of his gambles did NOT pay off.
Forget composed football for if there is nothing to show for it then you are only blowing HOT AIR. i.e it means NUFFING!
You mentioned 3 months? How many months did the class of 2005 train together. We all heard of how he (Siasia) was running up and down begging for money etc in order for his boys to train. Didn't they perform well?
That was his finest moment as a coach till date. I have mentioned this many times of this thread that Siasia is the best coach in Nigeria at this moment. That is a FACT!

Even Siasia himself stated it that his strikers were asleep and he also blamed the ref.
Now if a coach can come out and say his strikers were asleep what does that tell you?
