Okanran simply means the one who encounters a challenge. This odu is simply telling us that life is not a bed of roses and that we should expect challenges which are essentially portals to move forward into advancement. Take for instance if a man wants to get married to the best woman in the world by ALL MEANS, that is a challenge he has given himself. There are many other challenges in many industries looking for people to take them up, for example if you can get a clay with excellent bleaching property, you would become a millionaire, if you could design a satellite technology with which satellite phones can work indoors, you would be a millionaire. The 16 bit phased array system designed by DARPA which can be used to array microwave power beams for transmission to a low Earth orbit satellite in an integrated power project for Earth is a global power challenge that has been solved but is yet to be deployed and etc. Challenges are necessary for progress. I have two verses of the Odu eji okanran and the message there in is if you are surrounded with challenges, then you have an opportunity to overcome them and move to the next level.

Translation

One Okanran here
Another Okanran there
Double Okanran translates to blessings
Made Ifa divination for Sango the rainmaker.
The special one who has the resources needed to overcome
When he was going to marry Oya
He was asked to be patient
They say the wife he wants to marry is more virtuous than himself
Sango said 'I will make sacrifice'.
He said even if she is virtuous, she is his woman.
When Sango hits a place with a missile
The whole world will complain loudly
But if Oya kills two people daily
We hear nothing
If she likes
She will blow against a wall
Killing people behind it
When she likes
She falls a tree, killing many
But if Sango kills only one person
The whole world will hear
He said 'That was exactly what my diviners said'.
He spoke well of Ifa
One Okanran here
Another Okanran there
Two Okanran means blessings
Divined for Sango the rainmaker
The special one with the resources needed to overcome
When he was going to marry Oya
The wife is more ferocious than the husband, I tell you!
The wife is more ferocious than the husband
Oya is more ferocious than Sango
The wife is more ferocious than the husband.
Ase Edumare.

The broad road, the close
Divined for Apon iko
shared to Agan inaja
An unmarried man is Apon iko
An unmarried woman is Agan inaja
They were asked to offer ebo
They asked the man to offer two cocks. 16 thousand cowries, alcohol, kolanuts and palm oil

They asked the woman to offer two hens, 16 thousand cowries, alcohol, kolanuts and palm oil

The two of them complied
After offering the ebo
Their awos asked them to take their ebo to the edge of thesame pit.
They got there at thesame time The man was praying to God to provide him a good wife.
The woman was praying to God to provide her a good husband.
Esu intervened in their matter saying 'Do you want to hear?'
You have become husband and wife today!.
They went home together as husband and wife.
They continued their marriage They praised their Awos
Their Awos praised Ifa
Their Awos eulogised Ifa.
The broad road, the close
Divined for Apon iko
Shared to Agan inaja
The broad road, the close
I have not yet seen any Ifa like the Laughing Okanran!
