It devastates a woman to discover you are cheating on her. It is a blow to her confidence and the trust she had for you. It hurts and makes her mad enough to trash your car or kill somebody. Her first instinct is to walk away from it all. If she catches you cheating, it may mean the death of your relationship.
But not necessarily so, provided you do a few things right and not mind having your mistake brought up for the rest of your life.

1. Be good.
Stop doing many of the bad things you have been doing before and be on your best behavior until she has been won back. Show remorse and willingness to make amends.

Forget about the other girl and any other girl for possibly the rest of your life. Get into the habit of being useful around the house, remembering every small holiday and staying at home on match night. It’s tough, but you asked for it.

2. Give her space.
Get out of her sight for a time. She needs to calm down a bit and decide whether you are worth coming back to. In the meantime, don’t just wait around patiently. Be refreshing her mind about how awesome you are with well thought out gifts and notes of apology. Also be lobbying her friends to help her decide in your favour, perhaps giving them better gifts, because they wield so much power over you right now.

3. Tell some truth.
You are going to have to own up a bit. But the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth will bury you alive. All the lady wants to know is that you are sorry and that she is still your number one choice. Tell the truth alright but fudge it around the edges, stretch it a bit and don’t volunteer unnecessary details. And even if she has seen the incriminating evidence, destroy it utterly. History can always be rewritten.

4. Start over.
Your relationship as you knew it is over. She trusts you no more. Forget about that relationship and begin afresh. Show that you are changed. Cut out of your life what it was that misled you before. Work on regaining her trust. Avoid making promises and keep those you make. Show a commitment that wins her over.

5. Don’t beg.
Keep your dignity. Do not flood her with calls, messages and gifts. Do not stalk her. Nothing will turn her off faster than to see you everywhere she goes. It is ok to go overboard once to prove how sorry you are and how much you want her back. But you ruin your chances by constantly embarrassing and bothering her.

Bonus: If you have tried all this and some more and she still doesn’t show signs of coming back, pretend that you have tried your best and that you understand it’s time to give up. Be seen by her friends hanging out casually with another girl. If this doesn’t bring her back then yours is a lost cause.
