Against the backdrop of calls for true federalism, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State has said  restructuring was not the panacea to the nation’s current socio-economic woes. Instead, Ganduje explained that Nigerians for now needed to restructure their mindsets to return the country to the path of progress. The governor  noted that the United States was more geo-politically fragmented and had more nationalities than Nigeria, yet it remained the strongest nation in the world. According to Ganduje, the US attained its present status because of the ability of its leaders to harness the positive thoughts and actions of its heterogeneous population and not by restructuring the country along geopolitical divides. Ganduje, who spoke during a social event organized in honour of delegates to a pre-election meeting of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, in Kano, advocated that Nigeria should devote attention to tapping from the potentialities of its youths for national integration and development. Lamenting the high prevalence of corruption in Nigeria, the governor argued that youths were the best segment of the society to lead in the crusade against it, in view of their physical and intellectual capacity as well as their leadership potential. Earlier, Acting National President of the council, Comrade Ibukunoluwa Oluwole, commended the Ganduje administration for hosting their meeting and requested monthly subvention and office accommodation for the state branch of the council.

Re constructing Nigeria Base on States is not enough to make Nigeria Viable and secure..
The then Proposed Regionalism could have been better but given that things has changed since 1965. I think is time we start using Political zones as a measure for in dependability.. Let the. SE take care of themselves, so, NE,NC and SW... Before that happen, boundary between Imo state and Porthacout should be addressed.. The evil done there by Obasanjo regime is greater than that of Bakassi penisula...

All these gworo chewers will never stop reasoning like gworo.

He expects Nigerians to restructure their mind but they will not implement the physical restructuring.

By implication, they are ranking the spiritual above the physical without realizing that it's a two way thing.

Both the mind and the nation should be restructured.

And this people should be warned to stop insulting our sensibilities.

What is it?

An Ibo man/Easterner/Southerner destroyed the same regional structure when he was in power that Easterners are now begging for.

So you now want to restructure back to regionalism as you've been kicked out from the centre and are no longer near the corridors of power?

Like I said on another thread,

Soon as they lost power at the top, they now clamor for a devolution of power so that they can continue their evil deeds at the local levels with no thought or conscience.

If you cannot do any good with the little power you have, what more can you achieve with an overwhelming one?

Pesin wey go help no dey wait until him make one million before him dash beggar hundred naira. Because the instant you make that money, na car levels, beggar no go take eye see you again.

I'm not against fiscal federalism of any sort, as it wouldn'thave any impacts on me personally. But truth be told, it's more of the same.

Soon as powers get devolved from the center, these self-interested individuals have the tendencies to make it seem farther from the populace than it ever was. Talk about things changing right before your eyes.

When even your own local government chairman becomes hard to reach soon as he becomes and the LG was intended to be the government closest to the people.

Or is it not the exact same hawkish people that will continue leading the federating units? These people are in it for their own gains, nothing more. I'd rather have one emperor than have six devouring all at once, not to mention 36.

Just give them enough powers to get by.

you are very correct in your assertion of the easterner introducing the current system we practice, but wrong on every other thing. You see, the unitary system as the name implies was to breed and foster amongst the populace. A system where a northerner being qualified can take up existing position in the south and vice versa. But then, it was seen as a device to impoverish the north. People (northerners) complained of qualified eastern workers as if education was exclusive to the easterner. If easterners are taking up all the positions in the north as was the rhetoric of the Sarduana, then th northerners should go down south, get a qualification and occupy south. This system was to abolish the so called Federal charcater and your moniker Quotasytem. This two things can never be found in a country that wants to move forward. It rendered the system useless.

Now let me tell you my friend, this system works for only the political elite. It doesn't work for the people. If you claim that the calls for restructuring is because the easterners were "kicked" out of the centre, then what have you done with the centre that you have occupied for 50 years. It's not like the north was developed to be like Dubai or Qatar, you still have the highest ratio of impoverished people in the country; that's what the system does to you.

Is it not a shame that Kano state with it's humongous population cannot internally generate revenue to compare with states like Ogun which is like half of it's population?

That is what the system does to you. If the system should work the Federal character and Quotasystem should be abolished as it does no one any good.

Go an do your history research well. It was not Ironsi who abolished regions, it was Gowon. Ironsi centralised Government but he did not tamper with regions. If Gowon had left the four regions the way he met it, Nigeria would have reverted back to true federalism whenever civilians came back to power. By abolishing the regions and creating states, Gowon made it much harder for true federalism to return.

I had to go through your previous post to find out if I missed something, but no!! I didn't. The system favors no one but what we see here is something particular about Nigerians. Indeed it's a Nigerian thing; bringing in sentiments into discourses that should be devoid of such. Tell how the system has benifited you or any body and I'll rest my case.

That is the only relevant point and I'm grateful for your honesty in admitting it.

So why do the Easterners now want government to be decentralised? What was the structure before the centralization and why did Ironsi decide to centralize?

Answer these questions honestly and you will understand why Easterners/Southerners call for restructuring cannot be taken seriously.

That's why I told you to go and learn Nigerian history well before you start discussing politics of yesteryears.

Never say Ironsi destroyed the regions, he did not. Gowon did that.

As for decentralisation, it was already done in Aburi. It was signed and sealed.

Then Gowon and his fellow Norherners were not happy with it and abolished the regions, created States and centralised Government far more than Ironsi did.

Same tired old confused rhetoric of "what have you done with your 50 years in power?

Do you know how confused you people sound when you scream that you are marginalized and lack federal presence and later claim the north has not benefited from its political dominance?

The North does not only boasts of the best federal infrastructure including the best road networks, dams, strategic institutions like NIPSS, NDA etc., but also has a firm dominance of the military and entire security structure in the country. This basically means that the North has the military might to protect and defend its interests against any other region if need be. This could not without the North dominating the centre for so long.

Yes due to population and religion, the North has a higher proportion of impoverished people (which contrary to your lie, is not a consequence of a unitary structure) but it is also a FACT that the North boasts of the wealthiest band of Nigerians than any other region in this country, including the richest black man on this planet. Perspectives! This also has a lot to do with political dominance.

Look, the fact is you want power at the centre reduced because it is evidently clear that the North will continue to hold the centre for a long time, especially as the 2015 election showed that all the electoral might of the SS and SE combined cannot elect a President. Going by present realities, both major parties (PDP & APC) have zoned their 2019 presidential tickets to the North and if the PDP wins, it means the earliest a southerner will be President will be 8 years later (2027, 11 years from now) and if the APC wins, the earliest an Easterner will be President is for obvious reasons.

The unitary system was implemented by Ironsi to consolidate his own power and eastern dominance and not to foster any unity as you fraudulently asserted. Now that you're on the wrong side of power, you want Buhari to restructure and reduce his own presidential powers at the center.

As I said earlier, you are jokers.
