Where in Rivers state did this incident occur cause I know for a fact that one of the requirements for boarding a boat as a passenger is putting on a life jacket/vest @the jetty.

This is a wake up call for all youths to always prepare themselves for a life of eventuality . How can one be so old and you can't at least swim to stay afloat till help arrives ,after all he only slipped from a boat which tells me that there were people around that could have helped him unless he had an impact which left him unconscious.Well ,the lesson is simple always learn something and ensure you must know how to do some certain task at a certain point in your age , you can never tell when you'll need it.

These are some of the perilous situations the peoples of that region face on a daily basis yet get no sympaghy from the rest of Nigeria. Their 'lands' are dotted with hundreds of islands big and small with thousands of potential crossing points and they face these morning, noon and night all year round. Someone somewhere whose journey over water is no more than a hairs breadth over a gutter will come here and prove why they don't deserve more attention. The corper was on his way to his primary assignment. That shows there are people where he went to serve. Real people whose needs are as important as those in Lagos, Abuja or Enugu. Sad loss, sad country.

RIP. But NYSC really need to be reviewed. No health insurance for serving corpers. I remember a friend nearly lost his life due to scorpion bite when serving in Zamfara. Hospitals are literally not well equipped.

Boarding a boat from Marine Base to Okrika...one of the best moments I had serving there.

Teach your children basic survival skills suck as swimming from the age of 5 or less. It will help them one day. Only if the guy knew how to swim, his demise could have been avoided.
