15 Members Of Former Kogi Governor Abubakar Audu Arrested By SARS by Nobody: 11:05pm On Sep 07, 2016
Some relatives of former governor, Abubakar Audu were arrested by SARS

– It was rumoured that the exercise was ordered by Governor Yahaya Bello

– The governor denied the allegation but said he would not stand in the way of security operatives

The Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) has arrested 15 relatives of the former Kogi governor, Late Abubakar Audu.

Sahara Reporters reports that the eldest son of the former governor was also arrested.

A family source said: “The eldest of his sons Mohammed, as well as siblings and cousins have all been arrested”

The family source claimed they were arrested on the order of the current governor, Yahaya Bello and were held at Lokoja police station
However, the governor through Fanwo Kingsley who is his chief press secretary has denied the rumour that he ordered their arrest.
In the statement, Bello said security operatives were free to do their jobs without government’s interference.

Read the statement below:

The Governor did not order the arrest of anybody. However, law enforcement agents are free to effect arrest when anyone infringes the Law. If members of Audu family run foul of the Law, they would not be spared just because they are members of Audu’s family. Nobody is above the law. Even if members of the Governor’s family break the law, they will be arrested.

It is therefore unwise to link politics and criminality. Law enforcement agents should be left to do their work. Government is focused on governance. Politics is over. It is not the responsibility of Governor Yahaya Bello to arrest suspected criminals. The Governor will never stop security agencies from carrying out their lawful responsibilities of safeguarding lives and property. Anyone who breaks the Law must be prepared for the consequences of doing so.

The Governor has reiterated that criminality will not be tolerated in Kogi State. Citizens must act right. We must build a society of true equality.

It will be recalled the late Audu was the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the Kogi
Bello who was the second placed candidate in the primary elections was selected by the party to replace him in the re-run election which he eventually won.
