The irony of the whole thing is that, within Ogun state itself, the Egbas ( Abeokuta) don't want their children to marry the Ijebus and Vice versa: a friend of mine, an Egba guy, had to beg his parents profusely before they reluctantly blessed his relationship with the Ijebu lady...They have been married for years now.... 2 Likes 1 Share |

engrjoseph208:I am from Oyo state married to an Ijebu man born and bred in Lagos. The sole reason why Oyo parents frown at the choice of Ogun ladies especially home-grown Ijebu ladies is because it's believed they have the tendency to completely severe the man from his relations. If you observe rightly, Oyo people cherish extended family relationships a lot. I grew up knowing all my first, second cousins, aunts, uncles (both paternal and maternal). They want a woman who will preserve the link. It's stereotype though. Your fiance may be different. Besides I have met a number of wonderful women from ogun. 1 Like |

Kaydeexotic:Amen o, only God knows what those people did that they had to place a curse on themselves that their generations are now suffering the consequences. |

Lool at ancestral curses, well the curse didn't catch my relative that has been married to an Ondo person for about 30years. The death stuff is a scare tactic @ nyckeh |

Nyckeh: I have heard it all I guess this curse is selective cos I know an ekiti woman that has been married to an ijebu man for 36 years, I guess the curse is still gathering momentum |

Timbuktou: Funny enough ( and I am half ijebu/ half lagosian and before people start there are indigenous lagosians ) all those tend to things you listed can be ascribed to lagos girls as well. Just add also not being able to cook to the list Oh well , stereotypes are part of human nature jare. Sebi all Yoruba men are demons so we the ijebu/ogun/lagos ladies are just towing the path of our men |

damiso: I hear you, however, stereotypes aren't unfounded suppositions. At the very least, one should investigate the veracity of these claims in general and in their intended. I'm sure there are good and bad people in every tribe and dismissing one set of people carte blanche isn't very intelligent. But why e be say na bad tins una come dey follow? Una no fit transform us to angels ni? |
