Most plantain farmers in Nigeria plant conventional suckers which encourages the transfer of pests and diseases from one farm to another though, some treat their suckers with chemicals before planting but the international practise is plantlets production which ensures that clean cultivars are produced for planting. |

If this is what you refer to as secondary plantlets we have it. Though plantlets are not classified, there are various ways of producing it with varying sizes. |
Re: Invest In Ekiti State Plantain Village Project by phyllosilicate(m): 3:22pm On Feb 10, 2017 |
Erukulele:I understand you. I was only wandering why you harvested those huge plantlets (primary plantlets) instead of scarifying them so that each one would produce 10 primarily suckers. In that way you could get as much as 50 to 200 plantlets per corm. That's the way I do mine. Like you said there are many ways of producing it depending on production objectives. you are doing a great job. |
