The Senate, on Thurs day, approved the nomination of Justice Daniel Dantsoho as the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court of Nigeria, after the sitting and consideration of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters.

The nominee who was a senior hhigh court judge in Lagos before the approval as the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court is 63 years old. President Umaru Yar’Adua, had in a letter dated July 15, 2009, sought Senate’s confirmation of the appointment.

Vice chairman of the the Senate Committee on Judiciary , Human Rights and Legal Matters, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, while presenting the committee’s report noted that after the screening of the nominee, he was found to be qualified for the job.

He urged his colleagues to approve the recommendation of the committee seeking confirmation of Justice Dantsoho as the Chief Judge of the high court.

The Senate in the Committee of the Whole approved the appointment as recommended by the committee. During Plenary session on Thursday, the Senate President, Senator David Mark, read a letter from President Yar’Adua, forwarding a bill to provide measures to combat terrorism in Nigeria.
