agabusta:

Labour party did not have structure but some other issues was to their advantage.

1. Comparing the situation then and now, Miimiko was relatively more popular in the state than Olusola Oke, having held this positions consecutively:-

-Commissioner under Adefarati
-SSG to Agagu
-Federal Minister under Obasanjo

Infact, his name was already an household name then, even to the extent that Obasanjo heard about him and selected him to be a minister without any recommendation from Agagu, the governor.

2. He had more financial muscle and contacts to leverage on than present day Oke especially based on the above positions he held consecutively (except if someone like Tinubu gives Oke a brickwall support).

Because of his robust financials and networks, he had the money to deploy for massive publicity for the also relatively unknown labour party.

3. People were very much tired of the Agagu led-government and were eager for a change.

It was only Mimiko that offered the opportunity for that change then. The situation is also similar now, people are eager for a change except that there are more options on the table with financial resources, contacts and state-wide structure for Oke to contend with.

Oke is not the only option for now as obtainable for Mimiko when he faced Agagu.

4. Mimiko was a better grassroot politician than Olusola Oke.

Nope, Mimiko wasn't an household name. He was popular in the central and some part of the south, that was all yet the majority voted for him.

He was elected by the majority because we were simply tired of Agagu tenure which brought nothing tangible to the table except for the phantom olokola project which was highly "impossicant" by a state alone. No doubt, his olokola seaport vision was a fantastic project but without the federal input, that project is highly impossible for any state to built yet Agagu was banking all the state revenue on this project while doing nothing else in the state. The whole state, even the capital city looked dirty, dilapidated without any project, all because of this Olokola project. Hence, the reason why we voted him out!

Oke is highly popular in the South which is one of the biggest zone BTW, in a similar way Mimiko was popular in the central. Some part of the central and even the North support him as well. It's like you know nothing about Ondo state itself. Just come here and see things for yourself. Even right here in Mimiko home town, Ondo city and its neighbouring town, Ile-oluji, almost everyone here are already shouting Olusola oke.

Its like many people don't know that oke was osopadec chairman under agagu and d job in restructuring his region during this period is still wat dey av enjoyed till today. It was during his tenure that roads were constructed to areas only boats could reach before. With d roads came rural electrification to areas that had never seen NEPA polls before.

After that he represented ondo on nddc board. Mimiko came and stopped d road projects switched off the electricity and for 8 yrs des people do not av light again. The road agagu used oke to build are now abandoned and spoilt. I remember d night I drove on that road, d potholes damaged my car and u expect these people to vote for mimiko and his party? Right from mimiko second term, these people av always bin voting against mimiko and dey will continue to do so
