Very insightful thread. Thanks explorers.

Enough said about the problem of Africa. Black man mentality is full with greed, corruption, covetous behaviour, strife, hatred and dis unity.

The "only me" achievement alone has ruined the continent let alone other derogatory factors.

I dont understand what your problem is, i dont know of any church that opens morning, noon and night. Maybe you're referring to herbalist shrines.

If your parents forced you, that's your headache, they probably knew the importance. Its like saying your parents forced you to go to school. So should you also blame them for that?

Every Nigerian parent forces religion on his/her child undecided

And yeah, there are churches here in Nigeria that open every single day( morning evening and midnight) this is not me being against religion
This is the fact
It's left to you to take it as you wish

9. Crab Mentality(Unity).

'I dream of the realisation of the unity of Africa, whereby its leaders combine in their effort to solve the problems of this continent.' Nelson Mandela.

If you put several crabs into a bucket, and one of them begins to crawl out, one or more of the other crabs will pull it back down and prevent its escape.

It’s called Crab Mentality. This is a good metaphor for us as Africans to Unite, create strong networks that support each other, ensuring unity of power and purpose.

“If you want to control the people, separate the people and you can rule them. Divide them and you can conquer them.”

Think of all great competent African leaders; Ever wondered why they never last long in power?

Yes, you guessed it. The white man sponsors their assassination or overthrow.

What pride when they are dying to feed. The problem with blacks especially Africans in Africa is our penchant for blaming everyone else for our troubles. America was colonized yet they built a successful country in just over two centuries. You will hardly find that part in their history just the victory of the revolution and its success. Afrrica is still blaming Europe for slavery that ended a very long while ago.

Our mental laziness is why we dont progress, why our African approach to solving problems doesnt bring solution rather we blame foreigners for our problem. Was china not once a colony ? Look at where they are today, they dust up themselves from being pushed around to where they are today.

I think Africa's number one problem is complaining and always making excuses.

We have been complaining and blaming white men and religion.... But have we really done to undo what the so called "evil" men has done to us ?....nothing .

Where did Africa loose her Pride??

Is it not Egypt- an African Country, that is the origin of all civilization??

So what happened to Africa??

Thank you Explorer....

.....The main issue about Africa leadership is not the quality of its individuals, but the quality of the group of individuals.

Individually there are lot of brilliant people, but collectively they fail to work together harmoniously on long term vision, and commit with integrity and loyalty to their country or long term vision.
THIS IS THE SUMMARY OF THE WHOLE THING.!!

Problem with Africa is the white man pure and simple.

We need to break all ties with them.

3. Lack Of True Leadership.

In terms of natural resources, Africa is the world's richest continent. It has 50% of the world's gold, most of the world's diamonds and chromium,90% of the cobalt, 40% of the world's potential hydroelectric power, 65% of the manganese, millions of acres of untilled farmland, as well as other natural resources. Yet, despite this vast resource the bulk of African people live as if they were citzens of deserts.

The wisest man ever to walk this earth, King Solomon, said that where knowledge lacks, people perish.

It is obvious that Africans are perishing not for anything but because they lack knowledge. Africa is unique with unique problems and so the knowledge of the west is incompatible with the needs of the continent.

In as much as Africa has brilliant people, they are unable to identify an indigenous system, coach, educate their future leaders to offer the leadership that the continent needs for prosperity.

Africa is not poor, Africa has a leadership problem. For any society to prosper it should have a endogenous system of identifying, training and coaching its future leaders. Some countries do it through their military services, some do it through elite schools, and some others do it through informal coaching and assistance organizations or secret societies.

The main issue about Africa leadership is not the quality of its individuals, but the quality of the group of individuals.

Individually there are lot of brilliant people, but collectively they fail to work together harmoniously on long term vision, and commit with integrity and loyalty to their country or long term vision.
It makes me wonder if Africa is operating under a curse.

4. Endless Conflicts.

Africa is known to be a place where a brother kills a brother and a son kills a father.

You would wonder why people who have lived alongside each other for generations suddenly decide to attack their each other/neighbours.

While the elites tell the world that these conflicts are fueled by ethnic, religion intolerance, they create the ethnic groups themselves.

Look at the unstable African countries where rebels attack the government. Who funds them? Where do they get those sophisticated weapons?

I disagree with the first line. That pattern is even more prevalent in the western world than Africa. Daily we are confronted with news of siblings turning on each other, children slaughtering their parents and then turning on their peers, events which are more rampant in western societies than in Africa.

6. Inadequate Science, Technology, And Engineering Education.

When colonialists invaded Africa, they claimed to bring the good news of education, religion and trade.

Well, they delivered on their promise but not in a manner that could help the indigenous Africans be self-sufficient.

Instead of educating the African child on science and technology, they favored literature and subaltern mindset that would equip graduates with knowledge only good enough to enable them assist these people in running their colonial governments.

Africa has a lot of “talkers”, people with oratory prowess. Now, we don’t need more of those lawyers, sociologists, philosophers, but more scientists and engineers.
Oh boy, this is a boat load of crap. Explorers, whoever wrote this needs his head examined. When did we gain independence in Nigeria? 1960. 56years ago. That is more than enough time to have experienced major technological and scientific development.

The colonialists gained a foothold in Africa through trade. They never brought 'good news' of trade and religion because we already had our own religious system on ground. We traded with them, they infiltrated our ranks, deceived a lot of the leaders into signing treaties that sold our authority to them and used force to ensure that those agreements stood. Those that resisted were either killed in battle or deposed and exiled through the use of force.

After 1945 there was a push for the decolonisation of Africa and thus from 1950s African countries began gaining their independence, but before then our people went to the Mother State for their University education where they got degrees in sciences, medicine and arts.

So tell me how in God's name they emphasised on art education for the average African child?

The lack of technological progress we are experiencing should be blamed on our inadequate leadership, not on the whiteman.

I agree with you, someone needs to take the initiative and make a bold investment in science and technology.

We don't seek to create rather we seek the means to acquire creation. The likes of boeing, cinematography et al were made by private individuals of which their benefited from after regulations but here we wait for the government for virtually everything.

Hollywood as an entity has done more good for the US government and people but here Nollywood is waiting for the government that cannot rescue chibok girls.

Part of our problems in Africa is the blame game. Many people are still blaming the white man for the economic woes in the continent.

Let us go back to the pre-colonial era. Our ancestors sold their brothers to the white man as slaves. Kindly forget the over-sensationalisation by media through shows like Alex Haley's 'Roots' (Kunta Kinte), we sold each other to the slave traders for silver, mirrors, guns and gunpowder. White slavers saw a willing market among us Africans and they capitalised on it. Do we lay the blame squarely on the white man's shoulders? Of course we do. We must have someone to blame for our atrocities against one another.

Fast forward to post colonial Africa. Do we blame the white man for corruption, sit tightism and endless internecine conflicts? Let's take Liberia as an illustration. Charles Taylor was supposed to be the saviour who saved Liberia from the terrible clutches of Samuel Doe, but he ended up being worse than Doe. Is the white man to blame?

Mugabe has run Zimbabwe to the ground and he has been there since their 1982 independence. 34 years. Do we blame the white man for this?

Is the white man to blame for the Nigerian Civil war and the political instability that characterised the first 3 decades after our independence? Major Nzeogwu, in his famous 1966 coup speech stated one of the motivating factors behind the coup as, to paraphrase, "those in government who appropriate 10% of monetary allocations." Fifty years on, these corrupt elements have moved from 10% to 90%, or in some cases, the entire 100%. The developmental projects and investments these sums were meant to cover never see the light of day because of a few kleptomanic leaders who care more about primitive accumulation of wealth than the progress of Africa. Do we blame the white man?

Of course we must blame the white man. Rhetoric and the blame game, apart from stealing each other blind, are what we are best at.

People who blame the white man for our problems are 100% right to do so. The white man is still waging an undeclared secret war against Africa.

This is why every misfortune Africa suffers, just happens to translate to economic gain for the white man.

We Africans need to open our eyes and see this unrefutable fact.

Reason for all our problems is the white man. Not a curse.

Have you ever wondered why any problem we have, the white man makes economic gain from it?

You would have to be brain-dead not to conclude that the white man is secretly causing all our problems so he can exploit us economically.
