President Muhammadu Buhari has officially signed ‘Paris Agreement on Climate Change’ at the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York September 22, 2016.

an agreement meant to cut global greenhouse gas emissions, mainly from burning fossil fuels, to limit floods, droughts, more powerful storms and rising ocean level

this is why like somebody said, we need more scientists and engineers in govt. An engineer as Power minister would have advised the president better in addition to a pure scientist as environment minister.

Nigeria has refused to sign the EPA/west africa deal simply because we fully understand the implications with the economic experts that we have but we keep failing in the areas that are scientific and technically oriented.

I'm with Kemi Adeosun on this.

Nigeria needs development. Ozone layer depletion is the last of our concerns, those who depleted it to develop their nations should make amendments while those of us still developing can take our own turn.

We have coal in Enugu- Benue- Anambra- Kogi- Edo range. In commercial quantities too. Are the westerners saying that we should discard them? They are not serious.
One must make use of what one has to get what one needs. We need cheap electricity to kick start our own industrial revolution and increase the living standard of our people, Coal will give us that Cheap electricity.

This again begs the question of Buhari's competence? Why exactly did he sign a treaty that made it difficult for Nigeria to access her Coal reserves for electricity generation. This is so foolish of him, Nigeria just shot herself on foot.

Another excuse for non performance and display of cluelessness. Western powers advise our govt on the cost effective way of generating electricity for a tropical country and our govt takes it as a directive or hindrance. Will the West invade us if we wish to go ahead with coal ? No ,we will just reap the folly of our choice in years to come when the technology of coal electricity becomes obsolete. This is a case of misplaced activism.

Blocking you from doing what exactly. They haven't blocked government from buying armoured limousines and executive jets, it is power plants they block us for. I don't get it. Just get the Chinese on line. They commission a coal fired power station every month or so and surely will be decomissioning one every two months just as frequently. Buy these at bargain prices and let them bridge the power suply gap in the short term while the economy is fixed.

I stand with Buhari front and back but his ministers are in no doubt quarks.
How can she not be aware of the sensitivity of the Paris agreement her boss signed? It's in no doubt a shame on her to come out to make such statement.
They were just following Mr President up and down without knowing their primary assignment.

Sometimes I ask who is advising the woman she looks young but acts so old in the brain. How can in this century you want to use coal to power your country when there are other better way of doing it using solar and wind even ordinary water too.

This woman won't stop disgracing herself and Nigeria at large. So for your mind Na Westerners they hold you .. smh this woman is a joke as one would say apc has graduated the blame game to a whole new level.

Percentage of coal dependence ranges from 94%- 30%. So if industrialized countries still use it, why are we excluded? So we can subscribeto expensive power solutions from international power companies!

Even though stronger regulations apply in the US and EU they are still increasing/maintaining capacity while exploring renewables. China is still building at least 2 new coal power plants a week:

I will overlook your grammar. But if they say is green why asking if is green again?
They have to build as power generated can also serve as export commodity .

They have their reason best known to them, but from what I can dig out, they want to first match up with the American in economy and to do that they have to rely on coal for 15years. Nigeria just signed a treaty in paris which is against Nigeria using it and kemi is aware of it else she is not news savy. Meanwhile Nigeria is under developed and is not in this present administration agenda to match up with US in economy.

Who should we believe, which investigation have you undergone to make that kind of accusation. I don't care though.

What stops us from going nuclear
There is gas powered plant, and there are hydro power plant, there are also wind powered plant. We can leverage on that too instead of coal which is too backward and has adverse effect.

Like I said technology changes which made the world to adapt and change as well, and going by your stance if we should keep using coal by now the world will be messed up but with new and better technologies the world will always be a better place to be. Stick playing by the rules to avoid unnecessary sanctions by the international standard bodies.

Coal is cheap and efficient for the cost. Most modern smoke stacks only allow CO2 and water vapor out with trace elements of other pollutants. China does it and lots of nations still run most of their energy on it. When country get richer they can opt more for alternative energies that less efficient per kilowatt.

Besides these alternative energies aren't always producing. Sun not always shining, clowds and batter storage capacity. Hydro great but alot energy has to be kicked back to Niger and Benin republic so they don't block dams. Wind not always blowing.

Coal and Gas would be best options for us. Others renewables can be used aswell. I'm energy adnostic so I don't care too much.
but coal. is a no no simply because it's a non renewable source of energy ,expensive and dirty and cause destruction of the land through digging up the earth crust.wind and solar are far better and when we mature,we may add nuclear energy

If there was any daft that this woman is daft, she has cleared it all.

Buhari gleefully went to sign the Paris agreement just a couple of weeks back, an agreement which stipulates cutting down global carbon emissions especially coming from coal powered energy plants. Practically, existing coal plants are expected to be wound down gradually, not to talk of building new ones.

Does it mean that Madam Kemi doesn't understand the English in that Agreement?

Do you think the genocide against the Jews would be represented truthly in history books written by Hitler?
