The COAS also prayed for their speedy recovery. While at the hospital, the COAS took time to interact with the soldiers and assured them of proper medical care and welfare, adding that their medical care is of utmost importance to him . CLARIFICATION RE: NEW COAS SHOCKS REPS, SAYS I JOINED THE MILITARY 36 YEARS AGO Our attention has been drawn to a publication by an online news medium National Mail Online where it was reported that the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Major General Faruk Yahaya has served the military for 36 years instead of the 35 years statutorily allowed in the Federal Civil Service Rules. It is worthy of mention that the COAS while appearing for confirmation did mentioned to the Distinguished Senators that "what I brought along in this highly tasking office is about 36 years of military experience, having joined the Army on 27 September 1985 as a member of 37 Regular Course (Degree)". He went further to state "....Since that time when I passed out September 22nd, 1990..." For the records, the COAS had accurately captured his military experience to include the 5 years he spent in training as Officer Cadet in the Nigerian Defence Academy. The record of service of an officer however counts from the day he is commissioned. This is clearly stated in the Harmonized Terms and Conditions of Service (Officers) 2017 Revised. In the case of the 22nd COAS as he stated clearly, he was commissioned on 22nd September 1990 which is reference point for his service years. This therefore means the message being circulated is completely inaccurate and out of context. The general public is therefore advised to disregard this unfounded article as it was born either out of simple lack of knowledge of the military service or out of mischief which can best be explained by the author. Georginio Wijnaldum has signed a three-year deal with Paris St-Germain after leaving Liverpool on a free transfer. The Netherlands midfielder, 30, opted against signing a new contract at Anfield and moves to the French capital after being linked with Barcelona. "I'm joining one of the best squads in Europe and I want to bring all my desire and commitment to this ambitious project," Wijnaldum said. Wijnaldum joined Liverpool from Newcastle United for £25m in 2016. PSG are understood to have made a better offer than Barca with manager Mauricio Pochettino's presence also thought to have been a factor in Wijnaldum's decision. The former Feyenoord and PSV Eindhoven midfielder made 237 appearances for the Reds, helping Jurgen Klopp's side win the Champions League in 2019 and the Premier League a year later. Pochettino is preparing for his first full season in charge of PSG after missing out on the Ligue 1 title to Lille. Wijnaldum, who is part of the Netherlands squad for Euro 2020, added: "Paris St-Germain have proved how good they are in recent years, and I am convinced that together we can go even further and higher." www.bbc.com/sport/football/57400206">https://https.www.bbc.com/sport/football/57400206 Lalasticlala mynd44 Dominique seun

LAZIO have confirmed Maurizio Sarri will be their new manager with a hilarious cigarette tweet. The 62-year-old will take charge of the Serie A giants and they poked fun at the ex-Chelsea boss' chain smoking habit on Twitter. The Rome based side were said to be in advanced talks with the Italian last week. And they have all-but confirmed he will take the reins. Lazio simply tweeted the cigarette emoji. And then they added: "Anyone got a light?" Sarri has reportedly been offered a two-year deal worth around £2.5million-a-season. The ex-Napoli manager has been jobless since Juventus sacked him last August following 14 months in charge. Juve's Champions League last-16 exit to Lyon proved costly for the wily old Italian. Lazio were reportedly unwilling to increase their basic salary offer to Sarri. But there are potential add-ons - depending on qualification for Europe and winning Serie A. Lazio - who will compete in the Europa League alongside West Ham and Leicester next season - were said to be monitoring other options, including meeting with former Porto coach Vitor Pereira. Reports in Italy also say Sarri was interesting Tottenham and Turkish clubs but preferred to stay in his home country. Earlier this week it emerged Sarri is planning to raid his old side Chelsea and wants to bring Marcos Alonso and Ruben Loftus-Cheek to Lazio. Both players were regulars during the Italian's single season at Stamford Bridge but have not been guaranteed a starting spot since. A bad heel injury ended Loftus-Cheek's 2018-19 campaign before the Europa League final win over Arsenal, after a career-high 40 appearances during the season. Alonso played 39 times but was subsequently outcast by Frank Lampard, only to be brought back in having suited Thomas Tuchel's 3-4-2-1 system. According to Calciomercato, the full-back position is the first priority for Sarri at Lazio. The coach is said to see Alonso, 30, as a top target but the financial aspects of the deal have not yet been revealed. A bid for Loftus-Cheek would initially be on a loan basis, as reported by Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio. But, like Fikayo Tomori's switch to AC Milan, Lazio reportedly want to agree an option to buy the midfielder permanently at the end of next season. https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/15211969/maurizio-sarri-confirmed-lazio-manager-tweet-chelsea/
