This is the kind of healthy competition needed for campaign and making political points in Nigeria rather than unnecessary and blatant propaganda. Am happy pdp lost the election. They where actually turning into demi gods but this apc is worse. Let pdp learn it's lesson and become better. Apc 'll soon learn theirs and become better too. If it happens that way, Nigerians will benefit.

Population burst contributes to perennial refuse problems in Owerri since the 1990s. Owerri people fight for every establishment in Imo state to be in Owerri, nothing outside Owerri.

There are about 200,000 staff and students population in Owerri. Yet Owerri fight successive Imo governors who wanted to relocate the state-owned university to other locations that have none in Imo state.

Good that Owerri people now contribute to refuse disposal in the city.

Owerri is unique in Nigeria, if not in the entire world, a small town with six government universities and polytechnics - most of them mistakenly established in Owerri area during the military era.

Owerri is unique in another sense: it is the only state capital in Nigeria that has not allowed any other town in the state see modern development.

If Owerri people do not help in refuse removal in the city, before long, Owerri shall ask about half of Imo state's yearly budget to be used for refuse disposal in Owerri.

Rochas Okorocha govt worsened the current population over-burst and refuse dumps in Owerri as he established nearly every development infrastructure of his government in the last five years only in Owerri - except roads.

Okorocha and Owerri say they want to first build a mega city in Owerri that shall be bigger than other cities in the east for a competition. Because of that, the other once populated urban centres in Imo state like Okigwe and Orlu witnessed the worst form of abandonment, desertion and emigration to Owerri in the last five years.

As Okorocha got transfixed in building his mega city in Owerri, he and his Owerri Club never cared to know the level of human sufferings in Orlu and Okigwe due to abandoned road works by Okorocha contractors since 2012.

Okorocha and his Owerri Club would NEVER listen to yearnings of the people of Imo state outside Owerri, as the desertion and migration to Owerri from rest of Imo state continued.

The say cleanliness is next to holiness, am disappointed in the government of the state, how will a father say because his child didn't do his will, he will allow the child to live in a dumb site. The opposition just scored a cheap political point from them.
I have said and will continue to say that 70% of Nigeria problem is followership. We allow the leaders to take us for granted. They will come during election period and distribute 1 paint of garri/ rice with 500 naira to us and we will start singing their praise that they are the best, they have even ridicule us by sharing beans cake (Akara) to us. I will not be surprised if by next election instead of voting against the person that said he wants to punish them by planning to eliminate them with disease from refuse dump, they start running and singing their praise because they have collected paint rubber of rice.
I feel ashame when I see people celebrating a governor or senator doing what is their responsibility for example making good of a road and people gathering round even wearing aso ebi to commission the road as if they are doing them a favour.
It is high time we take away party , when voting for people. We should start considering voting for personality and not party.

You are right.

Clearing the refuse is not enough.

They should hold the government responsible to provide designated place for wastes that will be promptly cleared by the appropriate authority.

Lcoal government is supposed to handle that responsibility but the guy I'm quoting says Govenor Cockroach put an end to that.

Kenai:

Local Government structures don't exist in Imo State anymore, as Rochas dissolved all the offices of the Local Government chairmen and councillors the second he became governor in 2011.
He has refused to conduct elections ever since, and has concentrated all powers to his office, concurrently diverting all LG funds and allocations directly to his table for quick looting.

I support Rochas on this one.

I think people who trade their votes for bags of rice, keke, grinding machines or money as the case may be have no right to dictate to the government how they want to be oppressed.

Other narcissists are already lining up to take over from Rochas. One with the best ideas will never get an audience without freebies and goodies to the electorates. The politicians know this and capitalize on it. The people deserve the leaders they get. So don't shed tears for Imolites. History is bound to repeat itself soon.

Which one gbadun for the two. To me both APC that we thought will revive the economy and the PDP that destroyed Nigeria are bunch of useless parties. They are useless and clueless. I wonder what we can do to make this country great

But allocations from the 27 local govt councils have been devoted by Rochas Okorocha to building structures only in Owerri.

Recently, Rochas Okorocha announced that his govt bought 500 Taxis and 100 buses for City Transport for Owerri. Not even one bus or taxi to Okigwe and Orlu areas. Owerri clapped for Rochas. Knowing full well that Rochas Okorocha acts impulsively, no body cared to ask Rochas: but there are other areas in Imo state outside Owerri, how come all these buses and taxis are for Owerri only?

And to think some social urchins were supporting the dirt accumulation.

A beg, relocation or no relocation, should the govt allow dirt to accumulate in a city? If a tourist enters your state, do you have to start explaining why there is dirt somewhere?

I think okorocha and his supporters are too myopic. Are they even humans?

I have always maintained that there is no difference between Papa Ajasco and company and the Okorocha' Government. His level of myopism is disturbing.

Since, you feel it's not a tourist place, it should be left dirty about?
So, if a visitor arrives owerri, you guys will shield him from Douglas cos of Rochas misbehavior?
Is that place not residential as well? There are many ways of enforcing market relocation other than allowing you'd state to become filled with refuse and it's health and aesthetic consequences

Is imo the only state that has ever needed a market to be relocated? At Enugu , new Market was relocated, admist refusal, did the governor punish them with refuse? Will refuse ever prevent a market from existing?
What happened to bringing caterpillars to site on an announced date?

Pdp kept dirt
there?
You see why I maintain you are not humans after all.
During Sullivan time, whether you are ECOMOG, APC, if you keep dirt anyhow on Enugu roads, you will be locked up till bail time.
What stopped rochas from arresting the offenders and punishing them using the waste mgt officers? The same rochas gave a different reason for allowing the dirt and you are yarning dust.
You are not serious.
Imo is obviously the only state with opposition.

Very good from the PDP.

Hopefully, the people in the area will work out a better way of disposing of their waste instead of dumping them on the road and waiting for government to come clear it.

PDP should just stop this show of shame. They are busy on one hand instigating Owerri indigenes against Government plan to reconstruct Douglas Road while they act in hypocrisy. The picture shown there is still a dirty road that needs reconstruction or don't they like as Wetheral road is as shown below done by Okorocha government.

Re: Douglas Road Owerri After PDP Cleared The Nasty Dumpsite (Photos by Abagworo(m): 12:32pm On Oct 12, 2016
Douglas road has always been an eyesore and to solve it permanently needs relocation of the 3 markets and total reconstruction and expansion of the road. A modern mall known as Ekeukwu mall should replace the shanty market while some of those old houses are renovated to something befitting. We need to stop playing useless politics and embrace real development. Douglas Road can be better than this Dee Sam Road done by Okorocha led government.
