The wealthy city of Dubai is putting in place plans to introduce robot police officers to its metropolis within the next two years. After announcing the launch of robot lifeguards on its public beaches, Dubai has stepped up another notch with interactive robots patrolling crowded, public spaces such as malls.

The Dubai Media Office made this announcement via a tweet during the Gulf Information Security Expo and Conference (GITEX) Technology week. The city is aware that the population is expanding due to an influx of visitors from all around the world. Colonel Khalid Nasser Alrazooqi, who heads the city’s ‘smart’ unit, said during a keynote speech, “The robots will interact directly with people and tourists. They will include an interactive screen and microphone connected to the Dubai Police call centers. People will be able to ask questions and make complaints, but they will also have fun interacting with the robots,”

Dubai's objective is to become the world's best Smart City with the most advanced police force in the world after introducing the Google Glass last year. The gadget which has already helped issue 60 fines, allows officers identify road users who have outstanding warrants through their number plates. The Dubai Police fleet of cars also boasts supercars such as; a Lamborghini, Ferrari and Bentley; which allows them catch speeders who can outrun other cars.
