Soaps and detergents belong to the same group of chemical products called surface-active agents. These groups of product are amongst other properties, well known for their detergency that is due to the reduction in water surface tension that removes dirt by wetting, lathering and removal. Soaps generally are produced through a reaction known as saponification. This reaction occurs when fat and oil are hydrolyzed in Alkaline (basic solution)
Chemicals Used in Soap Making and Formation:
CHEMICALS FORMATION
1 Palm kernel Oil 12
2 Colour to taste
3 Caustic Soda 6
4 Sodium bicarbonate 1
5 disinfectant ¼
6 Magnesium sulphate ½
7 Silicate ½
8 perfume to taste
9 pine oil 1/10
10 glycerin 1/5

METHODS OF PRODUCTION:
The first is to ferment your caustic soda and bicarbonate. You will provide two tanks and ferment caustic and bicarbonate separately. Take full measure of these chemicals and pour them in separate tanks respectively and stir same measure to add three parts of water to each of the tanks respectively and stir properly.
Caustic soda solution is highly concentrated and should be allow to cool for 48 hrs

This is a scientific Procedure for the moisture of detrgent content - 1g of each sample was weighed into different sizes of petridish as follows: sample A was put into 34.780g of petridish, sample B was put into 35.011g of petridish, sample C was put into 36.780g of petridish, sample D was put into 44.092g of petridish and sample E was put into 38.780g of petridish.

Table 3 1: Values for moisture content
Samples Weight of empty petridish Weight of petridish + sample before oven drying Weight of petridish + samples after oven drying
A 34.780g 35.780g 35.676g
B 35.011g 36.011g 35.898g
C 36.780g 37.780g 37.676g
D 44.092g 45.092g 44.988g
E 38.780g 39.780g 39.676g

The moisture content is gotten using the formular

W1 - W2 x 100

Weight of sample

Where W1 = weight of petridish + sample before oven drying

W2 = weight of petridish + sample after oven drying then

For Sample A

W1 - W2 X 100 = 35.780-35.676 X 100 = 10.40%

Weight of sample 1

For sample B

W1 - W2 X 100 = 36.011 – 35.898 X 100 = 11.30%

Weight of sample 1

For sample C = 37.780 – 37.676 X 100 = 10.40%

1

For sample D = 45.092-44.988 X 100 = 10.40%

1

For sample E = 39.780-39.676 X 100 = 10.40%
