Does anybody know the name of this song? Attached below this post is a link that will prompt you to download a voicenote of me playing the tune on my keyboard. I've played it without any accompaniment or chords, so that it'll be easier to figure out the tune I'm talking about.

Please help if you can.

I have never seen/found the right time to use this Pidgin.....until now (dancing)
I loooove Mike Okri especially "Omoge" dieeee kiss
Thank you!!!

I share your sentiments about not knowing most of the songs...
I am not too young to know them, however I cannot carry a tune to save my life...I love music as I hear it, after which it disappears...then when I try to sing it, I just crack up people around me. SMH
However, without knowing the lyrics, some stay and light up my life..,I love Yoruba Fuji music, my dad used to play a lot of them in his car...all the time...and I was his handbag...I used to go hunting with him...and he played mad music after a good hunt. I would run out and carry the guinea fowls. Jeez. Nostalgia

I love Ozoemena Nwa Nsugbe....did he sing "onye a gbana oso na olue nu na omume"?
That song is one of my best songs in the world....the story fascinated and tormented me at once, while I would be ensconed safely in my father's car as usual cheesy. That song has to be my best Nigerian song...sad, soulful, melodious, lyrical, all at once

Then I love Lagbaja...to pieces..and Fela's Palaver...and Bright Chimezie's song that has, "Ogechukwu nwannem, nekwa......office m di na Legosi oo, madam ebezina" cool
I am soo sorry but Osita Osadebe's songs makes me wanna climb walls, or throw things (hides)
I have never been able to appreciate them...but I am sure the fault lies with me

Sorry for the parrot-ness!
Cheers

Beautiful topic @ naptu2 cool

BRIGHT CHIMEZIE! ORITS WILIKI...WHERE ARE THESE GUYS, FOR CRYIN' OUT LOUD?

Hi...this is for @ jnrbayano too
I think it's ?Yvonne Maha
If I am right, it is cos I had a girl crush on her! cheesy
I wanted to be her...with her afro and squeaky way of saying "gini ka I na eme oge ncha!?"
Lol

I also wanted to be that girl with Michael Jackson in "Thriller"...and that girl in that great "Belinda" song by an unknown singer
Sorry for derailing @ naptu2

(Modified) Oh...there is Chichi of Africa too
Well...I could have sworn it was by Yvonne, cos her songs were in a series, and the videos would play one after the other on NTA...but I bow to your knowledge...cheers

YES!!! BELINDA!! WHO WAS THAT GUY, BY THE WAY? HE LOOKED AND DANCED A BIT LIKE MICHAEL JACKSON, TOO!! IN FACT, THOSE DAY, IT WAS SAID THAT MICHAEL JACKSON WAS SUPPOSED TO PERFORM THE SONG, BUT HE WAS LATE, AND THE CAMERA GUYS WANTED TO PACK UP. SO THE GUY VOLUNTEERED TO DO THE SONG, AND KILLED IT. IT WAS SAID THAT MICHAEL JACKSON GOT FURIOUS AND SHOT THE GUY, BUT WAS NEVER CONVICTED! #HausaTalesByMoonlight

If you want to marry a husband, never you marry a waka about!.......Nelly Uchendu was and still is the greatest vocalist to come from these shores. The voice was supernatural, she did not have a single song that was average. Nice one Naptu. This can serve as a thesis cheesy

merahki:

Her voice is soo beautiful it almost haunts one. I dunno what sonorous means exactly...but it sure has Nelly's voice as an example...Simi, that new Yoruba girl on the block, has a soulful voice too

(as a total digress)
When Biafra comes, I am so gonna wrap up puleenty Yoruba singers and songs to take with me cheesy tongue
That tribe has music in its DNA...true story
I am thankful for the maaaany many times I listen to, and love Yoruba sings without understanding a word
9ice, Lagbaja, Fela, Juju, Simi, Tiwa, that Mandy girl from way back, Whizkid, BankyW, Davido's "aye", DBanj....and etc, and more
Chai

Aha! Maybe one of you can help me.

I had Nelly Uchendu's album in the '80s and I loved all the songs on it. Mamausa was a huge hit, Waka About was funny (comedians used it in their jokes) and Love Nwantiti was also very good.

But there was another song on the album that I also loved. Unfortunately I can't remember the title or lyrics of the song. I've searched everywhere for it (including YouTube) but I've had no luck. So I'm going to play the melody on my keyboard, hoping that one of you will recognise the tune and remember the name of the song.

Please click on the link below this post. It will prompt you to download a voicenote of me playing the song.

Thanks.

I would have posted this video earlier if I had remembered.

This is taken from the Bala Miller Show in the early 1980s. Elder Steve Rhodes, Bala Miller and Gloria Rhodes (now Gloria Rhodes-Nash) perform some of the highlife anthems that are on this list.

It's quite interesting seeing Steve Rhodes attempt to sing in bini.

It's also fascinating the way Steve Rhodes combined his group with Bala Miller's band (those men really understood music).

By the way, does anybody have a clip of the episode of the Bala Miller Show in which Kris Okotie was the guest? The one in which he dressed like a superstar. I'd be very happy if somebody posts a clip of that episode.

Bro, I saw your earlier post, but your question took me on a journey that was sometimes frustrating. I'll tell you what happened.

I recognised the lyrics as soon as I saw your question (I knew that I had heard the song), but I couldn't remember the melody. It was so frustrating! I kept searching my mind, trying to remember where I had heard those words.

Then I remembered the melody yesterday night and it occurred to me that the song has been done more than once. There's a 1970s version and a 1990s version, but I couldn't remember the name of the song or who sang it. I wasted a lot of time because I wrongly believed that the 1970s version was done by Ofege.

Now I've found the '70s version. I'm hoping that someone will hear this and remember the name of the person that covered it in the '90s.
