The members of the Bakassi Strike Force in a new video obtained by the Sahara Reporters have listed the conditions under which they would embrace peace.
The militant group that operated in oil-rich Niger Delta region noted that its opposition to the federal government is rooted in the latter’s failure to include the people of Bakassi in the Greentree Agreement of 2006, which conceded the region to Cameroon.

One of the militants said that Bakassi was “handed over to Cameroon without recourse to human rights,” which has brought “untold hardships” on the people of the community.

They clarified that they would cease fire if the people of Bakassi are included in a deal over the fate of the region.

The group added that if the Nigerian authorities cannot recapture Bakassi, a “resettlement should be instituted” that would fairly compensate the people of Bakassi.

The group further underlined that it does not attack Nigerian oil assets, as other groups do, and that it simply wants justice for its people.

The Force also noted that the FG should help in cleaning up oil pollution that has affected the whole area.

Bakassi peninsula is governed by Cameroon after the transfer of sovereignty from Nigeria as a result of a judgment by the International Court of Justice. On November 22, 2007, the Nigerian Senate denied the transfer, since the Greentree Agreement ceding the area to Cameroon was contrary to Section 12 of the 1999 Constitution. Regardless, the territory was transferred to Cameroon on August 14, 2008.

Why don't they organize a free and fair referendum then succeed from Cameron. After that the will be their own autonomous nation. Then after Nigeria can decide to Annex them. They can become territory first, then opt to become 37 state or reunification with state they broke from.

Ween don't need another state that can't survive with allocation aka welfare. Let them prove them selves fiscally first before they are given option to become state.

You can't imagine the hardship those people are facing since been transfered to Cameroon. They have been totally abandoned by useless Nigeria and are yet unwanted in Cameroon because Cameroon wants only the oil and not the people. They can't trade conveniently, get employment, communicate effectively or get amenities from the government. Very pathetic!
