PRESS RELEASE BY THE FEDERAL ROAD SAFETY CORPS OGUN STATE COMMAND ON THE ADDITIONAL DIVERSION AT THE SAGAMU INTERCHANGE OF THE IBADAN - LAGOS CORRIDOR BETWEEN WEDNESDAY 16 TO WEDNESDAY 23 NOVEMBER, 2016

INTRODUCTON

This is to inform the general public that as part of the ongoing rehabilitation and expansion of the Ibadan – Lagos corridor, the Contractor handling the Sagamu section of the road corridor, Julius Berger Nigeria Ltd would be diverting traffic on additional sections of the corridor.

2.       Specifically the affected areas would be as follows:-

a.       The lbadan bound traffic will be diverted to the Lagos bound carriageway between CH38+400 and CH43+700 to allow the lavinq of the wearinq course.

b.       The diversions will lead to the closure of the lbadan bound exit road leading to Sagamu as well as the Sagamu bound exit road leading to lbadan.

PERIOD OF CLOSURE

3.       The temporary closure will be with effect from Wednesday 16 November, 2016 till Wednesday 23 November, 2016.

MITIGATION EFFORTS

4.       Considering the discomfort that the road diversion could cause, palliatives have been arranged to minimise the effects on motorists that would be travelling on the affected segments of the road corridor within the period, as follows:

a.    All diversions have been clearly signposted to prevent confusion amongst motorists along the affected corridor.

b.    All road blocks are illuminated during period of darkness to mitigate against collision at the blocked sections of the road during hours of darkness.

c.    U-turns are located at relatively short distances to reduce additional journey times. Diversions are wide enough to support the large volume of traffic to mitigate against excessive build-up of slow moving traffic.

d.    A rescue team comprising FRSC and Ogun State Government Emergency Ambulances have been prepared to mitigate against traffic emergency relating to the use of the corridor.

e.    A mobile court with a Magistrate from Ogun State Judiciary has been constituted to mitigate against traffic infractions that may be associated with inappropriate use of the corridor by apprehended motorists.

f.    An emergency crew with towing/removal equipment will be based in the Julius Berger Project Yard in Sagamu.

g.     A tow truck will also be available at the FRSC Command in Sagamu to mitigate against broken down vehicles within diversion route which could cause significant congestion.

h.    FRSC and TRACE Personnel would be available to control traffic and offer other essential traffic assistance to motorists, to mitigate against traffic congestion and other traffic exigencies.

PLEA FOR UNDERSTANDING AND COOPERATION

4.       The FRSC wishes to appeal to all motorists using the corridor within this period and even beyond to exercise maximum patience, great restraint as well as cooperate with the FRSC and all the traffic operatives that would on ground to make their encounter at the affected portion of the road less cumbersome.

Signed
