Can A Governor In Nigeria Resign To Be A Minister Or Ambassador? by onismate: 8:22am On Nov 25, 2016
“Can this kind of thing happen in Nigeria?” “For where! Impossible,” so many would reply. But yet it’s happening in developed countries like America which we are borrowing their type of democratic system.
U.S President-elect Donald Trump is gradually putting together his cabinet, waiting for January 20th 2017 to be officially sworn in as President.
Few days ago, Donald Trump picked South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley to be the US ambassador to the United Nations.
Haley, who is the daughter of Indian immigrants and South Carolina’s first female and first minority governor.
Governor Haley has accepted the offer. She would be reigning as a Governor to officially take up the position.
Then come down to Nigeria. Can this type of thing happen in Nigeria? Imagine Osun Governor resigning from his post were he has over two years remaining to be Buhari’s minister or Nigeria’s Ambassador to United nations. Or You tell Governor Wike of Rivers state to resign to be one of Buhari’s Ambassadors. That will not happen. Maybe in the future but not Nigeria of today.
There is so much wealth in Nigerian politics. Too much power and money attached to it. Nigerian Governor cannot resign to be an ambassador to the president, except he finishes his tenure. They will rather tell the President to wait first till they finish their tenure. When they think of the people they control, the power, money, pride and respect, they won’t resign.
Or maybe am wrong that it’s not possible for a Nigerian Governor to resign to become an ambassador. Or maybe am right sef.
