What was the floor price? There have NEVER EVER been a floor price for data in Nigeria. For voice, Telcos cannot go below 11k/sec(i.e 6.60k/min) AZeD1: |

Guy!. This is all a game to protect the interest of the telecommunication companies. It is the telecommunication companies that increased pricing and disguised it as if its not them. This is why...................... You have to understand data price plunged across all the networks due to competetion, and it was even heading to free data offers, if they didn't do something about it. They must have held secrete meetings where they warned each other that if the principles of free-market is allowed to continue, the data competetion will force them to begin offering free internet to Nigerians. And this is why Noam Chomsky argues that capitalism is anti-people and that there's really nothing like free-market, because what he calls "the principal architects of policy" (in this case the telecommunication companies) control governments, and therefore, always lobby a goverment to create favourable policies for them all the time. That's exactly what's going on here. 2 Likes 2 Shares |

landinfo: i support PMB but this is a particularly well-written comment and I can't fault any point at all. PMB's economic team have spectacularly failed, low global oil prices or not. They are remarkably inconsistent with their policies and are totally bereft of ideas. 1 Like |

deor03: Go and learn the meaning of floor pricing. NCC never said the telcos should increase price of data, they gave them a floor price. The floor price was removed last year with a caveat that it would be increased if there's a distortion in the market. http://mobilityarena.com/what-nccs-withdrawal-of-data-floor-price-means-for-nigeria/ Educate yourself and learn to separate emotions from logic. |

AZeD1: Do you understand the concept of a free market economy? The companies you listed are not government owned nor government run. Why is the govt making regulations for certain private companies in a market oriented niche at the expense of the sector as a whole? Where is the competitiveness when the public have to pay increased fees to support the existence of private firms? Do you even have any sort of critical thought? Check your reasoning because your submission is clearly not why the price of data services was jacked up. 10 Likes |

It is totally unacceptable, for the federal government to carelessly increase a tariff in a country already suffering severely from effects of recession, which the government has no solution to, other than put the middle aged into more hardship. Will a country without power, internet, ever grow its ICT base? Its not possible. Teeming youths depend heavily on cheap internet access to succeed. You want to diversify into ICT yet you make it's basic(internet access) very expensive, that means only the few rich can venture into your scheme of verbal diversification, thus invariably a failure on arrival. You seriously need the masses for that dream. I totally disagree with this impending doom. 7 Likes |

AZeD1: OK, FYI I have been in this industry for well over a decade. From your link, where was it stated that 'rather it came about as a result of complaints of the smaller companies and new entrants (Smile and Ntel).' That is my point, no one complained to NCC. Neither FG nor the new entrants gave a directive or complained to NCC 1 Like |

What I'm yet to fully understand is "how this increase on data charges improve the economy "? We are suffering and smiling too much in this country. The only way or means Nigerians enjoy and communicate easily is about to be taken out of our reach. Yet some youth feels these old cargo retired seventy men are the solution and way out of this mess we found ourselves in this country. Until the youths of this country starts to think the he or she is the next potential president of this country, we will keep going in circles. Just because our data rate is the cheapest does not demand for increment ,this should not be a competition! Rather an applause thereby generating more mobile users and easy communication. If that's the only thing the government for offer us for NOW so be it. Not to add more burden on us. What a shame! 4 Likes |

Obviously these morons_ believe they're talking to fools. If NCC isn't aware, why didn't they move to quell this abysmal increase? Sometimes I wonder what our legislators are doing? How they sit idle and watch terror unleashed on the people who voted them into office doesn't thrill me anymore. If the bloggers we have in this country don't rise up against this, then they should know their business will take a serious nose dive. Everybody who has an online business platform should seriously kick-against this nonsense. It is wicked and foolish!. 4 Likes 1 Share |

landinfo: i just read through complete. na sarcasm u dey throw. lol. so sad for us oh. So they should increase prices of all products in all businesses? In other words, government has integrated itself into the business. They are now helping businesses fix price. Meanwhile, they are already aware how expensive things are and your best argument is petrol price don increase etc. I think the Buhari govt came in with a misconception of how money is made and how economies function. Sadly, it has back fired. This is not about oil prices anymore. The reason we have competition across the GSM compaies was to reduce prices through competitions. When prices rise, consumption drop. I hope the govt know that? the GSM coys will be the big losers. That is why they clearly tell us where the price increase is coming from. Ok oh. We dey watch. 1 Like |
