Why not get the small telcos and new entrants to reduce their own tariffs so as to get more patronage. These guys are just wicked.

Is it by force that price be hiked for an entrepreneur to break even?
It's gross stupidity for NCC to act in this way.
Re: Why NCC Directed Big Telcos To Increase Data Tariffs – official by Nobody: 11:10am On Nov 30, 2016
if ntel, smile, and the rest of the small operators pack up, it is these same wailers who will be screaming about the economy.
take it or leave it, this is what a responsible regulator does.
starcomms and visafone died some years ago for the same reason .

Re: Why NCC Directed Big Telcos To Increase Data Tariffs – official by persius555(m): 11:31am On Nov 30, 2016
Where in the world is this done? Keeping the rates higher will only benefit the existing telcos. The so called new entrants could as well be financed by the existing telecom giants. The senate should look for otherbmeans to generate money away from telecom rates because this will not fly with Nigerians.

I know that no one wants to pay for increased data, but this is actually a good way to help other businesses compete. If only one or two companies have a monopoly on a service, the people are at their will. I know it's hard to see, but there is a bigger picture that will benefit the masses. Some will stay with the big companies, but others will give the smaller companies a try since they will be able to offer lower prices. This will help the market be more competitive and assist new business owners.

Some people don't even have BRAIN sef. Must you force yourself to do data business..and who are the new entrants sef..why is APC Govt so CALLOUS..are they deaf? are they blind? Are we not operating a capitalist economy? Why must you fix price for data? NCC people that supported and push this idea are brainless people..may God forgive them and may they revert their decision..cos rigging won't work in 2019 if God tarries.

yorex2011:

You have a very good point here

He doesn't have any point there. The large telcos are indeed better off selling data at low rates to a large number of people than selling it at a high rate to fewer people. Besides this NCC directive has been in existence before now it was not dreamed up or influenced by MTN or Airtel as that poster alleged.
