"When the minorities Rivers area of Biafra was being threatened by Nigerian troops, Col Ojukwu asked the tribal (ethnic) chiefs of the two southern provinces, Yenagoa and Degema, to come and see him. He told them the nature of the terrain they lived in was unsuitable for defence, that he could not offer great hopes of the Biafra army being able to prevent the Nigerians from overrunning them. Therefore he offered the chiefs the chance that if they wished to opt for Nigeria, and save themselves from eventual reprisals, he will draw up his defensive line north of the two provinces and cede the reminder to Nigeria. The chiefs wished to reply at once, but Ojukwu told them to go back home and talk it over in the Council. The next day a messenger arrived with the Rivers people answer. They wanted to stay in Biafra. They hoped for every defence possible and would help all they could. They realised this would bring reprisals and were ready for them." The question is, If Ojukwu was after South South oil, as popularly claimed, why did Gowon not give up the fight after the so called liberation of Port Harcourt and other Delta region. The pure truth; this was a war of genocide perpetrated against the Igbos. 9 Likes |

That book was one of the best book ever written on Biafra. "In Biafra, Africa died", an objective master piece deserving the best of its class. One of the reason, I'm looking forward to the peaceful dissolution of this union. Nigeria is a disgrace to the black race. #truth. 10 Likes 1 Share |

blues2022: Eastern region is more appropriate because Biafra belongs to every tribe (including some parts of the middle belt) in its enclave not just the Igbos. |

anaton:Noted... But as of then, the war and genocidal mission was specifically targeted at the Igbos. Asaba and Calabar massacre comes to play.... In Calabar, Efik speakers, with Igbo accent were shot blank on the head..... see the reason why it was more of genocidal move agains the Igbos... However, in today's contest, I should have a reason to agree with you. 6 Likes |

ChilledPill: Gowon confused them with state creation. They thought they were getting their own autonomous regions, they didnt know that state creation was the master plan of Gowon and his fellow Northerners to steal their resources. Till today, they are still begging for 13% derivation of their own property and Ojukwu is laughing in his grave. 10 Likes 1 Share |
