Jailed former chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Chief Olabode George, shunned his meals on Monday. Apparently unhappy at the refusal of the Lagos High Court to grant him bail pending the hearing of the appeal against his conviction, George was said to have refused to eat. With no reprieve coming through a bail, it is feared the ex-NPA chairman may have to serve out his one-and-half-year jail term. His situation appears rather precarious as the congestion at the Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal may prevent an expeditious consideration of the appeal against the conviction by the lower court. The appeal may take as long as two years before final judgment, by which time the prison term would have lapsed.

One of his colleagues said that George is not bothered about his predicament, as he always told his visitors not to worry about him. He revealed that George told his visitors that there is no big deal being in Kirikiri, as prison has become “an institution every politician must pass through to come out strong and formidable.”

So he is coming out to be a proffessional and hardened god father to the core.
