Ukranian Christians protest Nigerian cleric's ordeal

By Tope Templer Olaiya

CHRISTIANS in Ukraine have appealed to the United States (U.S.) President Barack Obama, to help end the persecution of a Nigerian cleric, Sunday Adelaja and his church by the state.

http://odili.net/news/source/2009/nov/13/38.html
In a letter signed by the Head of the Board of the Embassy of the Blessed Kingdom of God for All Nations, T. Maximenko and the Chief Executive Officer, O. Dobrovol'skaya, the Ukaranian Christian community said: "We are asking you (Obama) to step in and end the situation, which has emerged in our country concerning our pastor, Sunday Adelaja and the Embassy of God Church, in order for us to continue our public and social activities for the good of Ukranian people."

They said that since 1997, the church had constantly experienced all forms of persecution and suppression, which have become especially strong and of a systematic character within the last year.

"Starting from November 2008, unfounded and provocative accusations of Pastor Sunday Adelaja in his alleged complicity in financial fraud of the King's Capital Company by certain politicians and officials, and particularly by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Y. Lutsenko, have repeatedly appeared in the mass media.

"We believe that in this way, the Minister of Internal Affairs has tried to influence the investigations and formed negative public opinion around the Embassy of God Church and its pastor. In fact, it is after the statements of Lutsenko that the persecution of Christians started all over Ukraine. The minister was once quoted in a statement published in the state mass media as saying, 'it scares me that the activities of Adelaja's church present a threat to national security , Sunday Adelaja is filthiness for Kiev.'

Adelaja is the founder and senior pastor of the Embassy of God, an evangelical-charismatic mega church in Kiev, Ukraine. He migrated to the Union of Soviets Socialist Republic (USSR) and Belarus as a scholarship student from Nigeria in 1986 to study journalism. After graduation and the breakdown of the USSR, he started a couple of churches, which he later handed over to other pastors before he moved from Belarus to Ukraine in December 1993.

Adelaja has faced criticisms from local groups, other Ukrainian evangelical churches, the Eastern Orthodox Church and foreign-based Christian counter-cult bodies as well as accusations of involvement in fraud.

His church is present in Armenia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Canada, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Latvia, Moldova, The Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland, Tajikistan, the United States and Uzbekistan.

The Church and Adelaja have initiated a lawsuit against the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Police of Ukraine for libel. The judge has asked the Ministry to show evidence for its accusation of fraud, but even after five hearings, they have allegedly not provided any to support their claims.

This is the 23rd legal case against Adelaja since he started the church and he won 22 of them.

Why did he choose to spread the gospel nearly 6,000 miles to the  Ukraine? Nearer home he could have started from  Congo, Rwanda, Gabon or even Nigeria.
Did this pastor think God wanted him to preach to Europeans hence his evangelism to Europe? If God wanted him to preach to Europeans I guess he would have been born there.
This has nothing at all to do with Ukrainian "dollars" has it?

How come most of his branches are based abroad? Statistics have shown Nigerians have more churches than any other nationality in London.
Question
Why do most churches carry their evangelism to London, Europe and America? There's even a Nigerian Catholic church in London.
Are Europeans (specifically Londoners) the most sinful beings on earth to warrant this influx of "dodgy churches" who all proclaim deliverance?
Even a 10yr old knows the answer to the above questions.

Niggaz pleeeeze!!!!
