Man's innate social needs warrant him to seek interaction with those of his kind. In as much as this sustains his sanity, it notably gifts him an opportunity to assert himself and boost his self-esteem. Brian Tracy, an inspirational author of international repute, said that virtually every human action and inaction are tailored toward ameliorating how one feels about one's self. You want that job either to improve your financial standing or follow your passion, thereby attaining happiness which rubs off favourably on your self-worth. And you would seldom partake in any activity that could corrode how you perceive yourself. It is hapless that cultists seem to be the exception of this tendency, as their patronage combined with allegiance to fatal groups elucidate the members' low self-esteem and warped life-view. The surge in death of most persons between the ages of 20 and 29 in Nigeria caused by cultism is worrisome, and the fact that the leaders of tomorrow are frequent victims underscore the seriousness of this issue. No news is it that cultism is rife in tertiary institutions and is currently infiItrating secondary schools across the country. Information from some quarters say that it was allegedly first introduced to Nigeria's place of learning by Prof. Wole Soyinka alongside his friends during their university days, which was known as Pirates Confraternity. According to Wikipedia's biography of the Nobel Lauerate, the said group was of an anti-graft nature, primarily formed to fight corruption in the academic environs. If that is the case, then the destructive direction such acclaimed similar confraternities have taken embolden their evil purpose. They intimidate, maraud, rape, and kill with impunity. Freshmen, seen as prospective recruits, are hoodwinked to fill membership forms and hoaxed to join the ''prestigious moving train" on campus that crushes anyone or anything that dares to stand in its way. Bullied, threatened by these persons of the underworld and flooded with promises of protection from foes and sadist lecturers; swimming in respect and getting any guy or lady reckoned as desirable; being the happening guy or babe on campus, among others, often impel those on the other end to give in. In a bid to transform them from ''Jews'' to stronger fellows, those shortlisted are made to undergo barbaric, demonic rituals. Unbeknownst to the "reborn," they've traded their possibilities-and-hope-filled future for a pot of porridge. Their lives become as thin as air that could be blown away by any passing wind into oblivion. Peace of mind escapes, veiled fear settles in, and always watching one's back becomes habitual. Death lurks around, laying claim to partakers of cultism. The potential Iroko tree falls, families' hopes are dashed, and tomorrow turns bleak. Nowadays, deaths in this or those cults clash surface in news headlines regularly. The gruesome killing of those involved especially during graduation or when preparing to serve affords us a glance at the hearts of cultists: shoot down the bird that begins to fly. Imagining that lives have been wasted for no just cause evokes great pain. What a tragedy! More so, a lot of people do not know that practising cultism is tantamount to idolatry. Due to the spiritual implications, one indirectly tells the Almighty God that he/she has no need of Him. Notwithstanding, by a stroke of fortune, some cultists escape the axe of death during and after their schooling days. They pride themselves as "people wey sabi." That doesn't in any way absolve cultism of the danger it poses to one's future and its gravitation toward taking participants to an early grave. However, being alive now as well as the next minute is in every case a chance to repent and turn a new leaf. Cultism is bad, reprehensible, unchrístian, unislamic, and inhumane. The future it promotes is dim, full of despair. Plus being a cultist is capable of making ''Gone Too Soon'' sooner than one thinks. Kaycee Naze (Rational Pen) 14 Likes 5 Shares |

Cultism is just one of the guaranteed highways to hell. No doubt about it. But the main issue is that our so called politicians were the founding members of these cults 2 Likes |

If you're a cultist then you're not fit to be a "leader of tomorrow", you're a threat to your own self. The youths who are wise enough not to indulge in it are the leaders of tomorrow. Let them join cult and be slaughtering themselves like fowl. Wetin concern me. 4 Likes |
