If you have installed the Zotero standalone app. Kindly double-click it to open. Here is mine already opened. Please note that yours may not look exactly like this if you had no document in it yet. So, do not be confused.

Having opened the software, click the file icon as shown here (see the marked portion).

Click "New Collection" and enter a name in the dialog box that fits your project. Check the following screenshot.

One thing with Zotero is that you cannot copy the document directly (using copy and paste command) as done when copy from one folder to another on Windows. You have to drag the files into the Zotero folder that you created (the renaming in the dialog box). What I do is to place the Zotero 'window' and the folder containing the files' 'window' side by side as shown in the screenshot attached herewith.

After placing them side-by-side, you can highlight the file that you want to copy and drag them to the zotero folder. This may take a minute or more depending on the number of files you are copying and your system configuration.
