It is a pity that Nigeria is this backward and the masses are so illiterate to see this madness.
How can you in this century be wasting so much amount of money and claim it is to reduce poverty?
Please tell Mr President to go and read Andrew Carnegie's article "The Gospel of Wealth" . If he is too busy to read that, let him atleast ask one of his SA's to. All I see is a bunch of failing presidential cabinet.

So the my take is that you want the president to read "The Gospel of Wealth" kiss Some of you need to humble yourselves and understand things properly

It look good you pay them. Am not in Nigeria maybe that's why I laugh at most of their policies. The pressing issues/needs, better laws and good regulations framework that can change the fortune of a country are completely neglected. We keep rolling plans that yield no peaceful result. The country always planning and working like a drowning man which they are really. Who will save Nigeria?. Who are you paying N5000? For how long? How many unemployed youths? What criteria do you use to determine the number of poorest citizens? So they are only eating today and die tomorrow. Nigeria need a total and genuine change.

1. You are asking questions that are laced in total ignorance
2. you are asking question you can research yourself by reading up on the CCT

I laugh when I see people tout better laws and good regulations as a panacea/magic wand. Laughable because you lot just sit your behinds in some countries and think the same template works everywhere

Without a proper census or identification system this is designed to fail.

Deal with the structural flaws before doling out money.
I disagree with your position. You do not need to wait for your "proper census" before this intervention can start. What you call proper census is probably 10yrs away, are you now going to wait that long before you introduce necessary social interventions? Do you wait to have "proper census" before you start intervention programs like immunization, family planning schemes, community development aids etc?

What has been done is to adopt an ingenious approach to data collection, verify the same data collection approach with international standards as verified by world bank and commence intervention with such, while you improve on data collection with time

Campaign promise to create dependent almajiri beggars who will have no incentive to work?
Why is it so easy to fool us?

You need to purge yourself of patent hatred and see the bright side of the intervention. So far the "almajiri beggars" access a relatively better lease of life, then we see a government meeting up to their promises. What I see here is either a total lack of understanding of (and ability to process) the programs.

The CCT has conditions which are important. Few of which are

1. Parents will allow their children to be immunized
2. Parent will send their children to school

Is that not a humane thing to do?

Nigeria's inflation is rather curious as it is imported. Price increases are uneven - on some staples year on year price increases are quite low. The government seems to be trying to domesticate the economy. The 5000 per person will most likely go towards the purchase of local food items and also to local artisans.

Whether it will work is quite another thing but the idea of lifting the domestic economy from the base while favouring large strategic infrastructural investments at the top is interesting. We haven't seen that before. What we've had since 1960 is basically top heavy trickle down economics in which money has flowed outwards in consumptive spending.

This is, it seems to me not just economic management but also large dosage social engineering.

On tax, government is gradually increasing tax. this morning stamp duty was extended to savings accounts. Corporate tax compliance is also hardening amount large non multinationals.

It's an interesting ride. Believe me, one that is presenting opportunities if you know where to look. I've run as part of my business an incubator and an accelerator in Lagos for the last three years and foreign investment is coming in looking for scale.

Wishing you a prosperous New Year

Thank you sir, you've definitely update my knowledge on this

If you want to help these people who claim to be in need of 5k then provide them with basic education - everything from literacy, to civics, to sexual health education.

This is just a way for the same idiots who have been short changing these people to continue to do so.

And what sense does it make to hand out a depreciating asset in the form of hard currency when this government has done such a woeful job of maintaining the value of the naira?

Again, save this money and use it towards something more constructive than handouts.

The poorest citizens should be the beggars at the motor parks. They are the ones who deserve it.

Dont be surprise some of those dudes are well comfortable "financially" but they prefer begging as a source of income, while they have stores and co managed by either their kids or spouse. There are also some group of mallams who are being paid % of what they earned by the people who shipped them from the north to various locations to beg and earn

Essentially the scheme is not for beggars. The Lagos State government has for example discouraged people from giving beggars money, especially the "perpetual beggars". The Lagos state government estimated that an average street beggar goes home with nothing less than N3,500 a day........

my fellow citizens of this country called Nigeria, good morning.
I believe that most persons on this forum are exposed and have a certain level of education. Also I would want to think that majority of us are YOUTH.

If my assumptions are true then why all these clueless and gullible comments.

1. Nigeria has no data-base: how will they know the poorest persons in the country?

2. I supposed, the money will be paid in the bank: how did they get the account details?

3. This government does everything on media: I bet you this will circulate for a while and die off. remember Saraki case and others, Saraki is still Senate President.

4. Do you not think this is the most foolish idea? What do an average youth spend in a day? how much do you spend in a week?

5. I think as youths this country belongs to us. when do we start holding our leaders accountable. they come up, say one thing or the other and will do nothing about anything.

THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD BE AFRAID OF ITS CITIZENS, NOT THE OTHER WAY ROUND.

THAT'S WHY AFRICA CAN NEVER DEVELOP.

1. You still don't get it. Nobody claimed to need 5k. The government is giving the 5k as a safety net. In order words, the government is giving cash incentives to alleviate their conditions, while getting them to buy into government interventions in health (immunization) and education (school enrollment). How do you want to teach your suggested "basic education" when in the first place these people are "disincentivised" and "disempowered" to make it to schools or primary health centres. How do you want to give "basic education" when it makes "immediate sense" to some to send their children out to hawk on the streets rather than go to schools. How do you want to give "basic education" when some families has to go out each day to hustle for daily meal?

2. On the value of Naira, you lot are just looking at the wrong paradigm. To these people in question, the Naira/dollar exchange means squat. But if you sat down to understand the interconnection and basic economics, then you will see that the cash to be given to these people cannot be deemed "assets", rather they are stimulants to reflate the economy and get cash to move in the system. Who told you government "hoarding" the cash will automatically translate to improvement in exchange rate? If government cannot not increase the spending power of people at this critical times, how do you want to help commerce?

Whenever I hear African countries relying on world bank data to perfom a simply task such as identifying most vulnerable Nigerians, it speaks volumes that no education is really going on in schools in third world countries. Otherwise, how could the world bank have such important data about Nigeria while the Nigerian government have none? Aren't there statisticians coming out of our universities?

Scrap this foolery called education!. Its not serving its purpose in Africa!!.

Pls quit the arrogant postures laced with ignorance. Yes on one hand, the World bank keeps data, but many states also keep some form of data. Many people just speak in ignorance. Where did I even suggest that government should hoard anything?

The money should be used for capital expenditure. This is no better than the policy of creating more government jobs and wasteful, inefficient recurrent expenditure.

Why is the federal government having to involve itself (again) in the basics of primary education, primary healthcare and immunization? What are certain states/local governments doing with the budgets that they receive for nothing?

You speak as someone who has some insight into this project - do you have a list as to the requirements that makes one eligible for this scheme? How did/does the government decide who the 1 million most impoverished/deserving are?

There was not time they ever denied it. What they refuted was the confusion that antagonists and opposition put in. Many people did not understand how the intervention worked. I remember a PDP senator, less than 3months into the regime, stood up in the senate and requested that the senate to mandate PMB to pay Nigerian 5k, "promised". That was part of the confusion and done in bad faith
