China see the new year like some 16 hours before the Americans, the plane took off from Shanghai, China which had already seen the new year of 2017 and landed back in America which had not entered 2017 yet due to the fact that San Francisco is 16 hours behind Shanghai

Yea, you are right. But this also goes to show that time is an artificial concept of measurement that was purely invented by man. In my opinion I think we have actually always been in eternity - an immesurable span of existence.

When you cross international date line , you will either gain or lose a day, and thats what happened in this case, they lost a day by virtue of crossing the international date line.

there is nothing spectacular about it. this is just basic geography knowledge that the globe is divided into 24 different time zones, starting from London (longitude 0 degree) with an increase of 1 hour time for every 15 degree travel eastward.
the plane surely traveled westward and experience a decrease in time that also led to the Change of date.
