The Snowlike stuff is just Chemical Foam applied to blanket the spilled petroleum product.

It will reduce the risk of having an explosive atmosphere forming from the spill.

It will also discourage people from trying to scoop the Product.

Good combat strategy. Now do containment and recovery of that mess you made. Afterwards clean up. Don't forget to carry out a thorough investigation regarding what happened and that what lessons we can learn to avert such in future.. (For Nigeria? grin grin grin grin cheesy)

Also, the fire emergency response team is from Eni's NAOC fire fighting team. It is AGIP's fire fighting team. Not State or whatever. As a matte of fact, in River State it is usually the fire fighting team of oil companies that are called in such emergencies.

Don't be stupid. All the tankers you see/hear/read about crashing in Lagos on a weekly basis you didn't make this kind of comment about them.

They prevented people from scooping the fuel. Good job.

Speaking as an indigene of Igwuruta, I can tell you that this petrol tanker accident is becoming an annual experience in this same Igwuruta roundabout. This is the fourth petrol tanker accident happening in this roundabout. The first one that occured on March 17 2012 which destroyed a lot of properties and killed many people is still fresh in our memories. Since then, petrol tanker has fallen three times on this roundabout. Not just petrol tankers but also other heavy duty trucks. Come to Igwuruta roundabout, you'll see a Dangote truck that ram into the market there for over three months now and it's still lying there and it hasn't been removed. This roundabout is turning to something else and truck drivers are not helping matters. The junction is just like a T-junction with very sharp bend, hence a truck driver who's new to the environment running there at night, will think that the road is running straight hence the reason for the numerous accidents.

What sought of journalism is this! Was it the chairman that put out the fire or the fire service. Give honour to whom honour is due. The fire service averted the impending situation and not an Honourable.

Imagine saying a chairman collaborated with the fire service....smh

Mr sabi, sabi, according to the news, was there any fire?

A fire disaster has just been averted in Iguruta in Ikwerre LGA, Rivers state by the quick intervention of the CTC Chairman Hon. Engr. Samuel Nwanosike (JP), in collaboration with the State fire fighting service. See photos below;

I trust Nigerians assuming security personnels' where not around to control the situation, the first thing is to suck the fuel into their waiting drums

See explantion galore. Why not tell Ishi bambe to construct a flyover there. Take your comment to his office and paste it on his door.

Flyover that will run from where to where? Do you know what a T junction is?

OmaniPadmeHum:

That is NOT CORRECT Sir.

It is mainly:

-to prevent/impede the formation of explosive/charged atmosphere. (You recall your upper and lower explosive limits for various flammable gases and your hazardous area classification and ATEX rules?)

-to ensure the suppression of vapors to stop them from finding an ignition source.

-to cool the spill surface area with the water content of the foam.

-to emulsify the spilled products i.e. for some special kinds of foams.

wink

@OmaniPadmehum, please i need more tutorials on ATEX Level 1 and 2 to #Bringbackoursafetyconsciousness.

I work somewhere around there and if the traffic lights were functional, a lot of disaster would have been averted.
The Government needs to invest in day/night reflectors, as well as speed breakers . ThankGod this didn't happen at night, the outcome can only be imagined this harmattan. God forbid.

This happened as early as 4am. The outcome would still have been as devastating. The truth is that if these tanker drivers are not running with an uncontrollable speed all these won't be happening.

Don't forget this is the harmattan period which comes with associated dust and fog by that time of the day. Agreed speed would have been an element, but to a novicevon that road without roundabout ahead, it becomes a trap.
