A member of the House Representatives (APC Ringim/Taura, Jigawa State), Muhammad Gausu, has said civil servants are more corrupt than members of the National Assembly, adding “people talk about us because we are elected; but the thieves are in the ministries.”
He told newsmen in Ringim, yesterday: “Directors insert billions of Naira because they are the ones that give contracts and they are the ones that the contractors see.
“Let me give you an example. I was in a committee on Niger Delta. There was a single contract with 20 different names and codes.
“The consultancy fee for that contract was N1.2 bil-lion. Who is responsible for this? The lawmakers or civil servants?
“Nigerians must understand that this is what we are there to stop not encourage.”
He urged Nigerians to sustain their support for APC in all coming elections, assuring that the present economic hardship would be a blessing for the country as President Muhammadu Buhari’s team was ready to tackle the situation.
He said: “Those accusing APC for the current hardship are looters, their collaborators or those benefiting from the loots.
“Nigerians are still aware of the wrongs of PDP; thinking APC put them in hardship is not true, and PDP is no more.”

You're all dirty thieves simple. The law makers have power of purse to and set budget every year. They have power to regulate and approve picks for ministry positions. Lawmakers can impeach exuactive, reduce powers, or withhold funds. The can have committee investigation on these matter but they do nothing but shift blame. Then go accept bribes from governor like new cars and insurance.

Ministries being currupt as a result of executive branch. Who's the head of the Exuactive branch in a state? What did they do to stop it. What did law makers do to stop them?

These contracts, state budgets and tax revenue sources aren't even available to public state websites. There's no sort of transparency with State or local institutions. Did law makers ever try an publish fiscal finance reports of states see how money was spent?

You're all trash. State and federal law makers. It's only the ilk that defend this type of blame game nonsense.

As lawmakers, what have you and your colleagues done, either through constitutional oversight or legislation to curb the corruption in the civil service?

He is right. The civil servants are the REAL thieves. If i am the president of this country, I will do what the former president of Georgia did with the police force; sack every body there and replace them with fresh faces. The CORRUPT gangs within the civil service inflate contracts, they mismanage the prosecution of government policies, they do shoddy jobs, they write bad reports to cover their embarrassing outputs up and they loot with fake contractors. That is the Nigerian civil service for you

But the politicians will always share the blame too. The country used to have a sane civil service before the war. After the war, those who saw Nigeria as a war booty came up with all kinds of owanbaeic slogans like "national cake" and "come and chop" to loot and run down different national agencies. Ethnic henchmen, party rats, area boys and girlfriends were used to fill in positions where tested technocrats have been chased away from , simply because the presumed new owners of Nigeria took over. . It is those products of a grossly corrupt recruitment process that are responsible for all the corrupt practices going on within officialdom in Nigeria today/ LIKE Nigeria airways , Like the Nigerian civil service...
