Google is one quick way to find information. If you are into marketing or blogging, Google search is one tool you should make friend with. With Google every information you need is at the tip of your finger, that is of course if you know how to use it well.

Here are some advanced search tips every internet marketers and bloggers should know.

1. Finding resource pages that are looking for pages to link to.

Here are some search tricks you can use:

keyword inurl:links
keyword inurl:resources
keyword useful resources
intitle:best posts keyword

This is useful when you want to promote your awesome content, you can look for sites that do roundups or make a list of the top posts in a niche and pitch them your content to add to their list.

A typical example is searching internet marketing inurl:links will bring up results as shown below:

2. Limit your search to a particular site.

You can limit your search to a particular site by using "site" command. Example is site:naijawebland.com blogging. What this means is that google will only search for the keyword "blogging" on naijawebland.com.

3. Finding infographic

You can quickly find infographics for your post by searching keyword infographic and then click on the image tab.

4. Search for exact phrases

You can search exact phrases quotation marks. Exampe is "advanced google search tips". With that, google will only show pages that contain the exact phrases.

5. Excluding words

You can exclude some words form your search to be more exact using hyphen (-).

For example, when you search "how to create a website", most result you will find are related to wordpress. You can exclude wordpress from the search by searching how to create a website -wordpress.

6. Search a specific location

You can search a specific location by using "location" command in your search. Example: location:nigeria blogging.

7. Find specific file type

You can find a specific file type by using the following format; filetype:file_extension keyword. An example is filetype:pdf annual marketing report. With that, google will only show pages that contain PDF file of the keyword you mentioned.

8. This OR that.

By default, when you conduct a search, Google will include all the terms specified in the search. If you're looking for any one of one or more terms to match, then you can use the OR operator. (Note: The OR has to be capitalized).

Example Search: inbound marketing OR advertising

9. Word in text

If you want to find a webpage where all the terms you're searching for appear in the text of that page (but not necessarily beside each other), type in allintext: followed immediately by words or phrases.

Example Search: allintext:blogging marketing webmaster seo

10. Words in title

Want to find a webpage with certain words contained in the title (but not necessarily beside each other)? Type in allintitle: followed immediately by words or phrases.

Example Search: allintitle:wine club

11. Words in URL

If you want to find pages with your search query mentioned in the URL, type allinurl: immediately followed by your search query.

Example Search: allinurl:naijawebland forum

12. Related search

If you want to find new websites with similar content to a website you already know of, use the related:asiteiknow.com command.

Example Search: related:visual.ly

13. A page that links to another page

Let's say you want to search for every website that cites a your website article on their website. To do this, use the link: command, immediately followed by the name of a page. Google will give you all pages that link to your website. The more specific the URL is, the fewer, more pointed results you'll get.
Example Search: link:myawesomewebsite

14. Similar Words and Synonyms

Let’s say you want to include a word in your search, but also want to include results that contain similar words or synonyms. To do this, use the ~ in front of the word.

Example Search: "inbound marketing" ~professional

15. Using wildcard

Ever forgotten a word or two from a specific phrase, song lyric, movie quote, or something else? You can use an asterisk* as a wildcard, which can help you find the missing word in a phrase.

Example Search: much * about nothing

16. Calculator

The next time you need to do a quick calculation, instead of bringing up the Calculator applet, you can just type your expression into Google.

Search Example: 48512 * 1.02

17. Timer

Don't have a timer handy? Google has you covered. Just type the word "timer," and google timer will appear, then enter the amount of time you want and the countdown will begin.

18. Google translator

Ever landed on a page with foreign language? When next you find such a page, don't worry, Google translator is there to help. Just google translator and the translator tool will appear.

19. Modify search result time

Ever searched for something and Google is bring up posts from the 90s? You can modify the search result to show newer contents by clicking on Tools>>Any time.
