Please what Premium times concern in this matter ? Are they aware that this thier publication could put the lives of Nigerians living in Gambia and our Armed forces in danger .

Actually the army is at fault, if there were planning on sending our troops over there, the public is meant to be aware as standard procedures practiced in other countries.
Premium times were only doing their job. If the army was planning a secret operation, they shouldnt have been sending out memos.

While Sowore of SR is busy looking for bribr from Fatodu. Premium Times is taking investigative journalism to new heights.

Sowore the Fraudster Hope you see ur life

People will soon call them pro-APC or pro-PDP when the publish anything against a politician you love, the same way people praise sowore when he publishes against Aisha Buhari but lash him when his news is against Jonathan.

we don't have money to waste, let them sort themselves out by themselves besides, lives of our citizens either living there or in the armed forces would be endangered.

The publisher must be very careful about the military. Military actions are built on suprises and not meant for public debate.

But if Ghana raises a force or even Senegal and thus increases their influence in the west african subregion people like u will complain when the 'side effects' occur

This is regional politics, if u observed you'd know why Ghanaian president(b4 he left office) was also part of the mediation team.

So unless nigeria wants to shirk it's responsibilities as a regional leader and hand over to ghana/senegal then we must send troops.

Anyone who is surprised at this is a learner in naija politics. That's why you should always read between the lines in whatever info emanates from the government. Even if your father becomes a government official tomorrow, take whatever he tells you with a pinch of salt.
I knew something was up when during a trip within the week, a woman traveling with her only child was making a call and she was like :"we're going to stay with my mother cos my husband is going for peacekeeping in liberia. "
I smiled, Liberia indeed. Implication is that even the rank and file may not know where they're headed, they may be told Liberia (at least that's one country our military has been heavily involved with) but they would simply be flown to Gambia.
Bottom line : Never trust the government.
Let's assume it is true that the military is preparing men for Gambia (I personally believe it is), do you think it is a wise or sensible thing for PT to make it public?... especially when it is clear even from your story above that the military wants it kept secret?

We are not surprised nah.

Ask Buhari, he will deny it too.
Ask Garba Shehu he will tell you, Nigerian is too busy with reviving the economy to enquire of any
political issue in Gambia

Ask Lai Muhammed, he will will tell you no election was held in Gambia.

This lying government and lying agencies.

Seriously, what do Nigerians want. From the look of things, PMB is soliciting for Jammeh to handover before there is need for an imminent war but if issues get bad, there need be a plan on ground; hence the preparation of the Army battalion that will be sent. This spells what is called a covert operation in the army which should have been clarified by Premium Times before spilling the beans. If President Jammeh takes the cue like Idi Amin of Uganda and start keeping hostages now from the Nigerian in Gambia, people like you will still blame the government of being weak and not proactive. By the way, how many people did Obama involve or how many news media did they consult when the US government went after Osama Bin Laden; to get the best out of covert actions, never let them see you coming.

Without sending out memos?... How is message supposed to be shared within the military organisation if not through signals (memos)?

Even the most secretive secret service of the almighty US, a cyber rat (wikileaks) could intercept their memos, let alone Nigeria.

Here we go again. Some people are asking why premium times had to publish the report; I hope you all understand that tax payers money would be used in funding this operation and at a time when our economy is in a comatose state, this is the least we need. Secondly, you can't guarantee the time it would take to get Jammeh out and if it lingers on, it would become a drain on our meagre funds which isn't available for development. We can't go borrowing for funds to beef up the budget and still spend from that funds to go fund military operations outside our shores. The US can't deploy troops outside its borders secretly without the Americans knowing...

I tire for Nigerians. We are very quick to condemn the US for meddling in the politics of other nations but here we are supporting our government. Things like this must be discussed by the NASS before decisions are taken. We don't have the funds to start and run that kind of operation. It's not as if we are going there to assassinate the President, we are going to keep peace so there's nothing to hide there.

If this story is true, must military affairs be made public? Online and in newspapers? Arent certain things are best kept secret?
Did the US media announce US plots on Sadam Hussein, Gaddafi, Bin Laden etc? Why give away Nigerian military plans to everyone on earth for free or some cheap journalism points?

On the other hand, if the story is untrue, why potentially spark up enmity between Gambia/it's allies and Nigeria? Why not consider Nigerians living in Gambia and what this could do to their livelihood? Why not consider Nigeria's relationship with Gambia as two west African states? Why only focus on what your personal gains?

What is the objective behind this publication? Obviously the audience here probably don't need the info except probably share national secrets that should be guarded with the wrong audience which can spark up other unexpected events.
At the point in time I think there is need to strike fear in the heart of P Jammeh by sending a very clear and strong msg to the buffoon.
P jAmmeh needs to know that, while leaders re eager for a diplomatic and peaceful resolution and handover, they will not hesitate to take deliberate steps and actions against him if diplomacy fails.

Wikileaks didnt intercept any memo, Snowden, a rogue CIA agent leaked secret information which the various US media carried notwithstanding it could hurt their country.
My point being you shouldnt blame the media for publishing leaked information, the blame should be on those who actually leaked it to the media. As in our case, the army should be blamed.

You know nothing about international politics and even our regional ecowas politics. Do you know we've gone into countries like Sierra Leone, Liberia, Mali etc? Do you know that for a very long time time our POLICE was stationed in Somalia and they just came home? You think when they call us a regional power house its for play?

As for your US can't deploy, Lool really? A simple Google search will tell you that's false.

NB: If you think our economy is still bad with everything you've seen then people like you are the reason government lies to us.

They will surely let the public know when they are sending them. For now, they are only preparing the troop for an expected course of action which the President is also trying to avoid by visiting Jammeh and trying to let him handover, so let us be patient and not jump the gun.

Obviously Jammeh needs to expect other nations to rise against him. Ecowas is made up of several countries and the body is interested in him stepping down. Why Nigerian military plots is being potentially exposed is what baffles me. Senegal that is so close to Gambia must have their back up plans too, but their plots are guarded like it should be. Other countries outside Africa are also interested in Jammeh's ordeal as well, yet no media from there is sharing any military plans. Why one from Nigeria?

How did this news even get out if not that some military personnel gained some financial rewards for divulging top-secret information to the public through a media outlet? Such people need to be fished out from the military.

I think the Nigerian press and public needs to be gagged. We are not ripe for press freedom yet. A military operation is secret and we are here taking pride in breaking the story. Do we have any idea the number of Nigerian lives in Gambia that will be at risk by this stupid act?
Re: Documents Counter Nigerian Army Denial Of Planned Deployment Of Troops In Gambia by Mobsync(m): 8:44am On Jan 14, 2017
In the first thread where the Nigerian army denied plans to send troops to Gambia, I said:

As usual. Premium Times would make an allegation, army HQ would deny it, Premium Times would give evidence (usually a video) supporting their allegation, army HQ would send them a cease and desist letter threatening legal action and Premium Times would give them a straight middle fingered reply.

Premium Times have already made an allegation and army HQ have denied it. We are now waiting for the evidence.
https://www.nairaland.com/3569650/fg-not-sending-troops-gambia#52763568

Now, here it is.

The Nigerian army and Premium Times saga can best be compared to Tom and Jerry or Wile E. Coyote and the Roadrunner. Everyone knows how they'll end but they watch it for the fun.

Do you realise that important seat at the UN is still up for grabs? Have you forgotten we have spearheaded virtually all ecomog missions? Because of the open borders do you realise what instability can do to the region? There are books on regional economics and politics for free, pick it up and read.

The Nigerian military high command made a mistake by responding to PTs publication about d deployment. You don't respond to issues like this, especially when you know there's an element of truth in it. By responding you added weight to the report and jeopardized the Gambian Operations.
