In December 2016, inflation rate rose to 18.6% year-on-year – higher than 18.48% recorded in the previous month and the highest in over a decade according to historical records kept by the Central Bank of Nigeria. This marked the end to a challenging year for consumers, who suffered as average inflation rose to 15.7% in 2016 (2015: 9.01%).
